Description Weapon assignment done for my low poly game modeling class.
800 tri limit, the gun is 780 tris.
This was the normal map project so this piece has a diffues,spec and normal map.

I got a metal texture that had a bunch of scratches on it(they were black/dark scratches) then in photoshop I used select>color range> and adjusted it till i had the stuff i wanted. It ok, cntrl+c to copy then I pasted on my uv map file and then from there adjust where i wanted scratches cloned some more erases some etc. then I used cntrl+u and changed the color and saturation. I set the layer to overlay tweaked the fill, then cntrl+j to dupe the layer and tweaked that ones fill again.
lol hope this all makes sense, this is the way I did it there are many ways to do it though.

no I get it I just hoped you made the scratches yourself trying to get that effect as well but it's hard to do in photoshop with no photos

though most of the edge scratches were done w/ brush work. the scratch overlay i talked about earlier was a general texture overlay to add to it.

I've done/can do them as well. It's simply tweaking brush settings and making 1-3 pixel line strokes, and then also creating a custom brush out of them.
