Description "A false alarm.
The large male turned disappointed away from the the remains of what could have been a decent meal, opened his sturdy beak slightly and inhaled the air to find the scent of new carrions. Beneath him flourished his territory among the high cliffs and ravines that formed a maze - all the way to the mighty Pasnacorian mountain chain in the North."
_____________________________________________

The thazuerian beak-snapper is a large scavenger that also hunts by chasing prey over cliffs or into dead ends. Its sharp beak and powerful jaws serves as perfect tools to rip, cut and crush the most resistant flesh and bones. The neck is short and muscular to hold up the large and heavy head.

As a scavenger, it often chases other animals away from their prey, because few dares to pick a fight against it.

The front legs with long claws are mostly used for cleaning and grooming itself (and in some cases their partner), but also for ripping up carcass, digging up/down stored leftovers, scaring away opponents by waving with them and protect the thoat during fights.

There are a few legends about this animal, mostly with heroes fighting its brutal strength and deadly jaws. Sadly, this animal has through generations been mercilessly hunted for its beautiful and thick fur, and as an initiation rite where the head is taken as a trophy.
_____________________________________________

Yes folks, here is a new animal for my collection. I've had it in my sketchbook since Nov 7th, and I started to colour it three days ago. The burden of my to-do list has felt so heavy lately, so I needed something to free my creativity.
I F*CKING HATE MY SCANNER!!! It ate most of the vibrant colours - particulary the delicate blue hues in the sky - and it also made it look smudgy. I promise you that it looks twice as nice in real life!

It looks like you've used references... So real.

Sakalah In reply to LyndseyWells [2008-10-04 17:58:06 +0000 UTC]

Nope, no references :3 But I do on the other hand study nature programmes and wildlife magazines to learn anatomy and get a feeling for landscapes. But no copying.
Thanks! ^^

I just meant that it's so detailed - just like if you used references (though, of course, it's not possible ) And using refs is not copying, I think, it's fair play if it's used for study ^^

Anyway, feel of anatomy and landscape is awesome! I wish I knew this things so well.

HOLY COW!!! -don't let that thing get close to me...!
That's f*cking FIERCE!! ...you never stop impressing me with that freaky imagination of yours!

And about those blues; you can (at least partially) recreate the "original look" by carefully altering the values in Image>Adjust>Selective Color, in Photoshop... start with choosing what colors to alter in the drop-down, in this case, Cyans or Blues. Then you just play around to see if there's any change!
But don't forget to save a copy of your original scan (you may change your mind later on if it didn't get "perfect", right?)... otherwize, I can only encourage you to try out/play with the other colour-altering filters in the Image-menu!

Thank you very much, my brother!

I've actually tried those techniques (my sister taught me a bit), but this is as far as I can go with it. I'm pretty much content, though. Thank you for caring and trying to help!
