THIS THING. IT'S FINISHED.

You honestly have no idea how happy this makes me. I've been working on this since what, September? I posted up my first WIP in September and that was linearted and flat coloured, so I must've started sketching a while before that.

Warning: Following paragraph is tl;dr. I made it small so my desc doesn't look so huge.
Originally inspired by the song 'Clowns (Can You See Me Now?)' by TATU. Bits of the lyrics reminded me of Live Again (my first ever piece of fiction, so crappy but still special to me) so I just thought 'What the heck, let's draw Lin.' Didn't think I'd take this long on it, but whatever. Parts of the drawing were influenced by the lyrics.

This drawing hits a lot of firsts for me, I guess. First time ever using the brush tool sensibly, first time linearting without the vector layer, first time colouring with the brush tool, which I love, first time where I've not tried to hide even one of the hands. First time drawing Lin. First time doing a proper background. First time drawing trees. First time I've actually been sort of happy with clothes. First time drawing creepy faces in the background. first time drawing a character from my writing days. I could go on and on...

But anyway, here she is. My Lin Kerral Sanar. (I'm not telling you what Lin is short for, it's too ridiculous. But if you're really that curious, I put it in the desc of one of the WIPs...)

I kinda messed up her outfit. The original decription had her wearing a black top, a red skirt and a black cloak. But it actually looks better this way round. I can't draw cloaks. Footwear was never originally mentioned.

Program: SAI (Brush and blur tools used for everything)
Time: Oh god, IDK. Six or seven months, on and off. Probably over a day in actual total drawing hours.

Art (c) (=Sakkeru )
Character(s) (c) (=Sakkeru )

Bark textures are from ~Neriah-stock . So useful! Thank you!

(Special thanks to ~Berende for gving me feedback on the many WIPs of this thing. Berende, if you read this, don't worry about commenting here, I know you've got a lot to deal with at the time I'm typing this.)

And now farewell. *dies*

Feedback, comments, faves, everything is very much appreciated! I will always reply to comments.

It's quite nice, A little odd on the prespective and the line art it's not quite my style. But that's just taste realted.
The color are just delightfull and the darkness around her really creps you out. I think maybe you shouln't use the red line on the trees so they can blend better into the background.
Over all nice job.

Thank you! Yeah, I'm not very good at perspective... And well, I'd be stupid if I expected everyone to like my style. But w/e.
Thank you very much! I'm glad the colours look good, and I'm very glad it's creepy. I used red because black blended in too much, and you couldn't see the trees at the very back. But I'll keep that in mind~
Once again, thank you!

Ah, but I am reading this and I DO worry about not commenting! I'm lagging horribly behind with all art-related, shame on me (and now that I'm finally trying to catch up, I'm doing it backwards ). And no problem.

But hey awesome, finished! And creepy as ever... please don't eat me, Mr (Ms?) Redmaw!

The red for the trees is a nice touch, makes it instantly more scary and creepy (what is it with red/black combination that does it? I'm blaming Sauron for some reason). The trees look good (your first time drawing trees? Seriously? Cool), though maybe you could have blended the red contours near the roots a bit to make them look more grounded. But then again, the way it is looks is quite nice and creepy and suits Redmaw back there. Damn it, Lin, run, will you?!

Sakkeru In reply to Berende [2012-03-05 17:01:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh, hi there! Awesome, then (but how can you do it backwards?)

Yus, I'm so happy! Even though I now have to work on something else... >< Haha, thankfully still creepy~ Uh, I refer to the Redmaw as 'he' a lot, but I guess it's more of an 'it'... Either, I guess.

I actually used red 'cause the background was too dark for black to show up. But then I left it because it looked good. (I don't know. You seem to blame Sauron for a lot of things.) And yes, first time drawing trees. They fail. And I tried that, but I couldn't get it to look good, so I left it.

Lin ain't running anywhere in those heels. Ohohoho~

Nah, she'll be fine. She's got her magic and her sword. She'll manage... hopefully.

Berende In reply to Sakkeru [2012-03-12 11:01:27 +0000 UTC]

It feels like doing it backwards because I started going through the messages and deviations from the most recent to the oldest - might have been better to do it vice versa.

Pfft, the trees don't fail. They're fine trees. And considering how terrible trees are to draw, this is a marvellous first attempt.

Sakkeru In reply to Berende [2012-03-12 18:58:50 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I always do that. They're at the front, so...

Oh, okay then. I'll take your word for it, considering how many trees Mr Adrahn Boughshade has given you reason to draw.

On that note, how's Hero doing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Berende In reply to Sakkeru [2012-03-20 11:17:52 +0000 UTC]

Eh, Hero... hasn't progressed at all, really. I think I'll upload a cleaner WIP version of the latest page. But I did buy a sketch book, because somehow traditional art helps with art blocks. Somehow it's just easier to grab paper and a pencil and start on a new page than pick up the tablet. We'll see how it goes, so far I haven't done much...

Sakkeru In reply to Berende [2012-03-20 17:08:42 +0000 UTC]

Myah. Well I can't talk, I guess. All three of my planned manga have gone no further.
Yeah, traditional art does that. Maybe because it's more versatile than digital? But whatever.

Well, I await the next page, whenever it shall be!

JustAnotherAlleyCat [2012-03-03 15:36:01 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure it won't =] And the way I see it, the longer it takes, the better it'll come out in the end because you've spent more time on it, right?

I think it might be the left-handed thing that my brain figured wasn't right haha. It looks more like a right-handed pose if you were only looking at the sword, but it looks fine anyway. And that's understandable, haha.

Ooh, jolly good And I don't mind if it takes forever, I probably won't start working on it for a couple months now haha, but if you're going to be about on Skype on monday, then I think I have a couple minor ideas to run past you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sakkeru In reply to JustAnotherAlleyCat [2012-03-03 17:21:24 +0000 UTC]

Let's hope so~ And yeah, I guess! Although I think my main time problems were with the colouring style (first time using this style) and failing at the BG. And being lazy.

Mm, probably. I kicked myself when I noticed.

^^ I'll usually be on Skype every day. I can be on MSN, though I don't use it much.

JustAnotherAlleyCat In reply to Sakkeru [2012-03-04 03:18:15 +0000 UTC]

Aha, fair enough, really I can't criticise really because I could never do anything like this, haha, and if I tried, it'd take me months to get it even vaguely decent looking.

Yeah, I'll probably be on Skype most days as well

Sakkeru In reply to JustAnotherAlleyCat [2012-03-04 13:35:07 +0000 UTC]

You can criticise all you like! I heard a quote once, something like 'It doesn't need a chef to tell that the food is bad.' So. Besides, if no-one ever critiques, how would I ever improve?

Awesome~ I'll be on today mostly, nothing else to do.

JustAnotherAlleyCat [2012-03-03 03:09:14 +0000 UTC]

Glad to see you finally finished this

My only criticism would've been her sword arm. Something seems off about it to me, but upon testing the angle and pose out with my own sword, I found out not only was it a feasible position, but quite a comfy one too. So ignore what I just said, basically, haha.

If you were still interested in drawing the AVS gang as a kind of rewards system, then I should probably let you know I've decided to reboot the whole thing. My humans are too stupid and trusting and my vampires are too human and I just generally don't like it any more haha. And as always, I'll be running anything AVS related past you

Sakkeru In reply to JustAnotherAlleyCat [2012-03-03 11:29:55 +0000 UTC]

Me too~ ^^ My next drawing better take less than six months to complete.

Hmm, Tanya said that too. It's probably the weird angle of her hand (and slightly deformity of it too.) And her forearm looks fat. Guhhh. But I can see what you mean. It was quite funny, I didn't realise I'd accidentally drawn her left-handed until I started on the BG. By which time I was not going back and redrawing/relinearting/recolouring it. So I just kinda went 'screw this, she's left handed now.'

Yup, always up for it! May take a while though, as school stuff is taking over my life right now. But I'm going to doodle a bit later, and we shall see what happens... And yay, awesome! I cannot wait~

I love it! The fireflies are a nice touch and the character is very well done. I love her necklace.

Thank you! I vaguely remembered talking to Seki and saying 'What kind of a background should I draw? and she said 'Maybe a forest. With fireflies.' So, yeah. I'm glad you think so! I like her necklace too. It's just not easy to draw... Straight lines = kill me now. Goes for her sword too.

GoldenEarthAngel In reply to Sakkeru [2012-03-03 19:49:52 +0000 UTC]

The sword did turn out well too! Why do 'straight line= kill you now'?
Ax

Sakkeru In reply to GoldenEarthAngel [2012-03-03 22:29:28 +0000 UTC]

^^ Thank you~
Because straight lines are horrible to draw. Curved lines are much easier. It's also the reason I find men difficult to draw. They're so straight.

I've only been doing digital painting for a few month now but I find it painstaking, it takes me a long time to get anything done with it.

Sakkeru In reply to Ghostdogg333 [2012-03-01 03:09:56 +0000 UTC]

Aha, I know what you mean~ I'm mainly a digital artist now, but I still can't paint/draw without lineart at all. I need to learn to do so at some point.

Ghostdogg333 In reply to Sakkeru [2012-03-01 03:12:37 +0000 UTC]

I just start with a lineart sketch, scan it and paint over it with the layers, cheeky but effective.

Nice--like the way the tree roots look like hands--and their red outlines. Lots of visual interest re: the girl, her sword arm, the creepy face behind her.

Sakkeru In reply to GregoriusU [2012-03-01 02:41:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I can't remember if that was my original intention, since I started this about half a year ago, so most of my original intentions have been lost, but even if it wasn't I'm still happy it looks good~ Yeah, the red outlines weren't intended to be permanent, but I didn't like black lineart for them, it blended into the background too much. And I'm really glad that it's eye-catching~

I love my creepy-face-thing.
