Description Since living in Florida, I miss fireflies so much. Back in Pennsylvania, they were everywhere – I remember as a kid, my sister and I would run around the lawn at night trying to catch as many as we could and put them in a jar…but our mom always made us set them free.

My first lineartless picture…it’s harder than it looks! I now hold a high respect for the artists who do it.

I love the softness of it. You may have had a difficult time with lineless art, but it looks fabulous XD The lighting is also stunning.

She seems scared, yet lost. It's a wonderful piece though. I love the colours.

Very nicely done! I especially like the face, the hair, and the background. My only critique would be that the curves in the clothing could possibly be improved to look more like real cloth. Maybe more dips and folds in them, or softer corners/edges for a more cloth-like feel.

That is so adorable... I love how you did it without solid black lines! I've always adored artists who do that... I'm really impressed with how well you did that! You didn't do the cute, chibi, comic style, either... It's the soft tone, more pastel approach, and that's my favorite type of art in this style! It looks great! The hair in this picture really looks cool, too! Seriously, it looks like you did this in watercolors or pastels... MAN, I adore this style of coloring/artwork/whatever! And seeing it come out of YOU... That makes it even more enjoyable! AH, excitement!

The background, lights, and everything else in the scene look beautiful... Well done.

This is really beautiful... The whole scene is cute. The pose looks natural, the expression on her face is so cute and innocent... The flow of the clothing looks great. You are becoming more and more of an amazing artist, and I feel honored to be able to watch you become more freakin' awesome every day!!!

Oh, yeah! On Dec. 16 at HoB (@ 9pm? 10pm, I believe), my art is going to be showcased alongside other DA Floridans' art! I think admission is $22. But it's still really cool though! It's a big opportunity for me!

I was born in Bethlehem in Lehigh County, but I lived in Allentown. Pennsylvania's official insect is the firefly too, coincidentally.

Ohh, that's so pretty... I love the color scheme, very nice! I've been wondering about doing lineless, I've got a tutorial on hand...

Yeah, fireflies are great, aren't they? It's an interesting adaptation... Ack, I remember once at my grandparents' place, a firefly got stuck in a spiderweb. ><

yea seriously, it's so hard to paint neatly without lineart. The lineart can hide messy edges >_<;

uwah~ such a cute little girl. I remember back when I used to go around chasing bugs in my childhood, but now I'm deathly afraid of anything with more than 4 legs @__@. I dunno what happened. I used to love fireflies, now I run like crazy when i see a sudden flash and a big black thing flying around T_T

I love the painted-ish style you used. It sounds like quite a difficult task to color without lines... o.o;;

Ah, I miss fireflies. There's a lot of them in Japan, but not too many where I live now.

Yay, Sakura-senpai! Congratulations with the first lineartless pic!!!
I suppose it's a great step in an artistic life when a person starts painting without any bonds !
So, I'm glad you've become even MORE COOL !

And the pic is pretty as always! Ahh, your wonderful cute style! I like it !

/btw, I don't know why, but this girl somehow reminds me of some Russian princess !../

Sakura-Star In reply to Aileine [2006-12-11 03:50:55 +0000 UTC]

I really like it too. I'm going to try this method more often and see if I get more details. This one is simple, but it came out nice.

A Russian Princess? Maybe it's the pattern on her dress and hat?

Nice job! I like the colors in her hair and the lighting, even if it's a bit bright for the light given off by a firefly. And you did an amazing job not using lineart, especially for your first time!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sakura-Star In reply to k-chan [2006-12-11 03:55:10 +0000 UTC]

I was kind of worried about that. Before, it was about 3x brighter, and I had to tone it down. I don't think I dimmed it well enough. XD Thanks for telling me though, I'll keep that in mind next time around.

The lighting effects are gorgeous! I live in Florida, too, all of my life. The only times I have seen fireflies was when I went out to the country (what little there seems to be now) at night, where there were no lights. I remember as a child standing with my grandfather, catching fireflies in our hands and then letting them go. *happy sigh*

I've heard of fireflys before - but never actually seen them before. I'm not sure if we even have any down here.
But we do have glow worms though I think they're a different species to the glow worms of the northern hemisphere.
Still they're very pretty to look at.
