It got me too, I teared up. But when you look at it... It explains his need to numb himself with alcohol, it explains why he hates the other Ricks (In that only another Rick could have done that to his family), it explains why he gives himself up to protect Beth and the kids, even if they're not his originals, it explains why he shows love by going out for ice cream.... And well. If it wasn't too close to the truth he wouldn't necessarily have been able to act well enough to fool the bug.
