DRAWN: 5/Jul/2009This drawing took me about...somewhere between 3-5 hours. I got to a point (which was 3-4am in the morning or something) where I just couldn't remain calm and patient with it. So the hair never really made the impression it's suppose to. It became rushed and slightly unfinished, and well crap.
The reference I used was Britney Spears, and unfortunately it doesn't really look like her. On some angles it does- sorta.
There is one thing I did change on this scanned version of my drawing, that is that I've uploaded the mirrored version. I found this one gave the better impact of "movement" in the hair.
Anyway. I hope you enjoy my first deviation on here. Even though really it's not. My original account is but I haven't drawn for like a year!

There's not enough of her lips in this image. But the work I've put in them - does look good. I've also thought this has been one of my best portraits. I guess it helps that the model (Britney Spears) and the reference photo were artistic in their own way (her hair and the hand)

Isn't it such an annoying feeling though?
You do a drawing, you don't think it's that good at the time when you draw it, you leave it for awhile, look at it and go "wow, that's pretty good. I bet I can't do that again" and you just feel so unmotivated, you'd think it would motivate yourself by seeing the stuff you can do.. But it just makes me go "no, this was a one-off chance - piece of luck, it won't happen again."

AWww thanks.. but they constantly change in detail I think. Some are more detailed than others. I want to keep doing my realistic drawings - portraits and some anatomy soon enough (which I have done some before - just not posted) while I study and draw for cartoon-like stuff

Exactly! I gonna keep drawing people/using realism, but still try drawing some cartoon people, because I'm not good at cartoons, and I'd like to find a style. Some of my ideas are too hard to draw realisticly anyway XD

I never really draw "cartoon" people, but rather cartoon animal characters. I'd love to have the ability to create pretty much my "OWN" Looney Tunes, or Disney-like classic characters

I actually like how it looks unfinished. That's my kind of style though, as can be seen in my two ink portraits. I think the most important parts should be more finished anyway. Like with this one,the first place my eyes are drawn to is her visible eye and her hand at her mouth. The hair does look unfinished, but it's obvious you drew it with talent. I like it a lot, even if it doesn't look like your original inspiration.
Also, I'm very jealous of that nose. I can't ever get the noses right. Yours looks effortless.
