Description "I saw an old man passing by, on his cloak the flicker of the night
As I turned to ask his name, he was gone just as he came
I know I'm not alone, he will watch me far from home
And his wisdom be the light, and his courage in the fight."

I think this sketch is based off three different songs.
Got inspired because of listening to this
Got lyrics from this  and the above quote came from this .

Thanks hahahah well, in mythology, Odin likes to go about the
mortal world in this form, and I thought it was the coolest
form ever. Yeah, any one of the three songs really fits it.

Odin!! I like the sketchy style you got going on here. Are those runes just random or do they actually say something ?

Glad you recognized this cloaked wanderer.
Well, if you look closely, they're actually in this alphabet and
are lyrics to a song by Falkenbach.

Looks like something out of a lore book. I like it! Also I've been wondering... Do you use different custom brushes for all your works?

SaneKyle In reply to drakenichols1 [2015-11-23 07:26:59 +0000 UTC]

Glad you do.
Just two brushes, the standard hard round and a textured square for
other things.

Interesting. Perhaps I should make some other customs. It'd be fun to experiment.

Try to stick to simpler brush shapes throughout. Just remember
that unless you know how to use and what to use them for,
magic brushes won't help and it'll be too obvious.

Thank you! Gah. I started with Autodesk Sketchbook Express Demo,
which literally only had one brush style, and first I thought it was terrible
(which it was) but I soon came to realize it would help me focus on technique.
Basically, no Drake Sword! Hehe. I'm glad you think the same.

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-11-23 11:56:59 +0000 UTC]

Glad to have helped! And screw the Drake Sword. The only reason I had to
deal with that thing's tail was for the platinum trophy. Using a magic, über brush
to try and save you trouble is like using the strong attack with any Dragon weapon.

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-23 21:22:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh, trophies... *retreats into corner*
Ignore me and my PC.
And my nonexistent framerate.
And no controller.
Yay, Dark Souls! T-T
Textures are good where necessary, but too much is just
either being lazy or cheap. Even in traditional, using
different materials to paint is alright, but ya gotta know
how to paint to begin with, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-11-24 02:48:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh don't worry about that. Saves you the trouble of
building your character based on getting the trophies
faster and the game gets harder because of that decision

The framerate thing though is a huge problem. Props to you
for enduring it.

People do think that textured brushes will make things easier,
but unless treated well stuff would look artificial and wouldn't
blend in better with the piece. Textures can be achieved with
normal brushes like the hard round, so you just gotta know
what the texture look like. You're right. It's fine to use different
materials as long as you know what desired effects you use them
for.

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-24 21:04:26 +0000 UTC]

Ohh, that is true. I'm not min-maxing because I can't go
online with this framerate anyways, but going for all the
trophies sure seems annoying. There are Steam
Achievements, but I think they're different.

The normal brushes do just fine on their own. They
really do prove what's skill versus flashy nonsense.

Trophies are usually what I go to if I love the game
and have already finished it for the story. Dark Souls
was freaking hard and I still can't believe I was able
to get the Platinum.

Yep, just gotta know the technique behind how you use
a "normal" brush.

Platinum? I shall commend you for it even
though I have no idea what you had to do
to obtain it! Sounds difficult, though, knowing
Dark Souls. Also, I must have forgotten about
Monster Hunter, because I'm trying to 100%
my guild card in 4G and that's proving to be a
difficult (mostly tedious) task. But I won't go
into the Monster Hunter versus Dark Souls
debate; that's for the forums, and I honestly
think that both of them are hard in their own
ways, and fun because of that.

My friend, I went through hell and back and back to hell and back
again. Here's the list of trophies . Totally worth it.
Ahhhhh Monster Hunter...now that's a game I'd want to platinum
if only they'd release it on the damn PlayStations already.
In my opinion, the two games play alike in many ways. Playing
DS will make you more careful and precise when you play MH
and vice versa. But MH....damn I miss having real gaming pals
who would set up traps while I spam my Longsword attacks
and somehow manage to dodge to the left and not get hurt.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-25 20:30:53 +0000 UTC]

Bloody hell... those are the same trophies.

Here's the list of 180 MH4G guild card achievements .
I'd love for Monster Hunter to come out on the PS4 or
the PS5 if it'll be that, anything that will give better
graphics than what we have now on the 3DS. The
quality of the promotional content for MHX is so good,
but when you look in-game, it's dung. You're absolutely
right; playing both DkS and MH will make you a much
better hunter/soul because you learn what works on
one, find it doesn't work in the other, then eliminate
that entirely from your playstyle and keep improving
until you can perfect-evade everything and run around
bashing beasts' heads in like it's nothing.

So apparently, one would literally have to finish every quest
in the game, offline and online, to get every achievement...
I love it when getting all achievements means you're practically
100% done with the game and can just play it for fun afterwards.
Believe it or not, after MH3P on the PSP, I stopped extensively looking
at newer MH games out of sorrow. Hahahaaha! But I'll look up a little
on X since it sounds like a turning point for the series.
I think I'd be a lot better at MH now because of DS.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-26 04:47:38 +0000 UTC]

MHX is pretty much a collection of all past games, bringing
all of the old nostalgic monsters together with new flagships.
MH4 was already revolutionary with its mounting, so basically
adding quite a few vertical features to the maps, but MHX has
new hunting arts, different styles, just like Dark Souls III is
going to have, if I remember correctly. So excited for both!
Yes, you'll definitely be better at MH now. Surprisingly, it feels
great knowing I'm addicted to both. Love them all <3

Just saw stuff from MHX. I remember how awesome the armor and weapons
were when I saw the greatsword from the "Guild Style" picture. What's your
favorite Elder Dragon, by the way? Mine happens to be Shagaru Magala.
Got the chance to fight and kill it on my friend's 3DS. It has the most badass
roar and charge animations.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-26 13:16:46 +0000 UTC]

My favourite Elder Dragon? Shoot, that's a tough question...
I love Kushala Daora's armour, but in all honesty, I can't
pick between Gore and Shagaru. Gore, of course, is darkness
and that's great, but his roar and theme song aren't nearly
as good as Shagaru's. For MH4, I'd have to say Chaotic Gore
Magala is my favourite Elder Dragon, simply because it's both
of them at the same time (Gore molts into Shagaru). For MHX,
even though I love Dinovaldo's colours and Raizex's armour,
Tamamitsune is my favourite... he also reminds me of Seath.
Another notable monster would be Hororo Horuru - before he
turns around to face you, he turns his head 180 degrees like
a typical owl, which is rather shocking, if not creepy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-11-26 15:22:53 +0000 UTC]

Kushala Daora was my first most admired Elder Dragon.
She was beautiful in every way. Too bad I had to kill her.
Her armor was great, but I think I preferred Teostra's and
Lunastra's just because they emanated majesty.
So wait, does Chaotic Gore Magala molt in-game?
Haven't seen the Hororo, but that sounds awesome.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-26 16:05:07 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if they changed Kushala's armour ,
but here it is in 4G. I think Teo/Lunastra armor looks
better in the male version because some female ones
have huge round skirts, which feels off.
Chaotic Gore Magala is literally half Gore, half Shagaru.
The armour, weapons , and theme song are all combined.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-11-27 02:45:52 +0000 UTC]

Mmm. I love the helm and shoulder pads for the males on MH4U.
The Chaotic Gore for me is alright, I prefer the consistent color
scheme of the normal Gore or the Shagaru itself. The sword and
shield look amazing. Do they have it in Shagaru colors?
Theme song is alright too, it gives a sense of danger and somehow
honor; same as the Shagaru's.
I think the best theme for me was White Fatalis' back in MHFU.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-27 04:52:13 +0000 UTC]

I love Chaotic Gore for his battle because he fights with the
Frenzy attacks of Gore and the deadly explosions of Shagaru.
Here's the Shagaru charge blade - that's what it was,
basically the transforming SnS/axe with phials and guard
point frames. Not as cool in my opinion, but fitting and regal.
I think other MH games had better music than MH4U.
I have an incomplete list I'm working on here ...
Also, I entirely forgot Gogmazios ! He drips oil, spews lasers,
and eats gunpowder for breakfast. His weapons are all based
on mortality and sci-fi, which I find pretty nice. (Click the links
at the bottom of the page; they have rotating 3D models!)

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-11-28 13:16:29 +0000 UTC]

Well that sounds pretty cool. Well, last I checked, some
old MH music made their way to MH4U. One of my old
favorites that made it was Chameleos' theme, which
was pretty good for the weakest Elder Dragon (from
my experience).
My god, I'd love to check out the 3D models, but I cant really
see them. Are they the weapons or the monsters?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-28 13:27:28 +0000 UTC]

Chameleos has been improved; it doesn't just stand
there and do nothing anymore. Kiranico has 3D models
for weapons, but they're slowly expanding them to the
armour pages and I think they'll eventually get to
monsters, maybe, if they don't give up on 4U because
MHX is coming out. Kiranico's pretty useful these days.

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-11-28 14:47:01 +0000 UTC]

Damn. That's great. I hope it's worthy of its own
theme song now. Yeah, Kiranico is proving to be a
good MH resource that I probably missed because I
was too MHF2 old school and never bothered checking
up.

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-28 17:43:34 +0000 UTC]

Is this the Chameleos theme? It's adorable when
it hovers and spits a poison cloud like it was nothing.
Not a badass fire beam... just a purple mist and a
"glop" sound effect. All the randoms are instantly
poisoned. Not to be elitist - I myself am a novice
hunter - but I don't understand why people dodge
INTO hitboxes, and not for a perfect evade at that.
[Player 2 fainted. Reward decreased by 12000z.]
Maybe, just maybe if you hadn't stood in front of
the Teostra supernova... haha. Oh, well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-11-30 14:38:17 +0000 UTC]

Yep, that's the one! Strangely, I found that no other
Elder Dragon aside from maybe Lao Shan matched the
intensity of Chameleos' theme. Yeah, come to think of it
Chameleos is kind of a "cute" elder dragon. Especially
when it finally feels threatened.

Hahahha, before teammates dying once was okay. Screwing up
beyond that point is unacceptable.
Ahh Teostra...Just when I think his triggered explosive attacks
won't hit me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-11-30 22:15:45 +0000 UTC]

Charging while invisible isn't exactly cute, and neither is being
poisoned then robbed, but Chameleos pulls it off. Somehow.
I love Crimson Fatalis' themes, especially his second , but I'm
not sure if he's an Elder Dragon... is he?
Teostra with Blast is basically like this: "Heellpp... I have blast,
I have blast, I have blast can't dodge enough can't run help
help help no time to sheathe help I have blast help I can't run
with this great swor-- *BAM* BUTbutbut he didn't even attack
me... he just ran over me and the Blast activated, noooo..."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-12-01 02:56:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, I forgot that Chameleos literally licks you of something.
Eheheheheh.
Crimson Fatalis' second theme has really nice ambient vocals,
something it has over the White Fatalis', though I prefer it.
I think that all Fatalis dragons are Elders, but White Fatalis
is the most ancient. I remember reading a theory that the Lao
Shan was only running away from a Fatalis when he was
"rampaging" across the old battleground.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-12-01 05:55:10 +0000 UTC]

Crimson Fatalis has great vocals, like Dark Souls
which I enjoy... but you're right for White Fatalis
because that's a bit more complex and melodic.
So even Lao Shan Lung runs from Fatalis? The
lore and theories of these games are what I love
the most, but MH doesn't have enough people
going after it. I guess ecosystems are harder to
reconstruct compared with storylines.

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-12-01 06:35:07 +0000 UTC]

Now, my favorite Dark Souls piece has to be
Gwyn's. I love it when battle themes or just character
themes tell so much about the character. People
who don't like it simply don't know the character if
that's the case.

I know, right? It'd be cool if MH had theories
surrounding the Elder Dragons. They're the ones
shrouded in the most mystery.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-12-01 21:00:16 +0000 UTC]

Gwyn's theme! I can play that on the piano...
rather, it's the only thing I know how to play,
since I quit years ago, but it never gets old. I
feel like Artorias' theme could be better, though,
because it didn't stand out to me when I listened
to the soundtrack before I got the game. Maybe
if it matched the haunting atmosphere of the
Bloodborne soundtrack just a bit more?

I've seen a Reddit thread about Zinogres and
flashbugs/fulgurbugs, like dogs and fleas... or the
reverse. MonHan Science Sunday, it was. That
was a great in-depth analysis; I'd love to see more.

Hahahah cooooool. I heard some of your stuff on
SoundCloud and I liked some of your techno-ambient
stuff like the song with "Soul" in the title (forgive my forgetfulness)
and Encounter which was less ambient but nonetheless
sounded like an encounter.
I haven't really paid any real attention to Artorias' theme. I should
give it a listen. But I think Bloodborne's music fits that of the abyss.
It would make it 10000x scarier.

Zinogres and flashbugs?! Holy crap, that's awesome. I wish we could

Eeeek. My SoundCloud is so old... so very old. I've turned into a more
epic orchestral/dark/rock/metal person, though if I return to electronic,
I like deathstep and the melodic dubstep from 2011. And, of course,
video game soundtracks! Soul Rift was the product of terrible computer
testing... I like how you remembered "Soul" because we all know that's
what counts! You have a nice voice, by the way.

I wish we could fire dust mite clouds from our clothes or something...
or even take leeches and use them as blood-guns.

to get back to music and actually composing things and making
covers with a personal flavor (I guess that's what it's about)
And of course "Soul" is what matters!
Thanks for the compliment, Nico. I'm learning guitar and can somewhat

Are you going to post them here by any chance?
Yeah, let me just get better at lead guitar first, and I hope
to make personal stuff.

Yes, like that. Like what Lady Maria does when you get her to
half health. Jeez. She is too hard, I have to admit. It's like
Alonne but less linear and all over the place.

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-12-04 03:15:00 +0000 UTC]

I'll definitely post them here when I finish it all, but that'll take
a while since it's so expensive and I'm very precise when it comes
to looking good in armor. I also need to find someone who's pretty
much expert in photography, because as good as my father is,
he isn't professional, and there's no studio background or anything.
I just hope I can find someone nearby who'll do it for free.

I'd love to see a video of Lady Maria's fight... be needing the reference
for her clothes, anyways. The way I see it, if the boss doesn't take an
entire month to defeat, it isn't too difficult! Annoying, yes, but not
insane. Because difficulty is addicting <3

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-12-04 15:11:15 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that would be awesome. Good luck with that.

I do make videos, but I'm too lazy to wait for the videos
to upload, and so I barely barely upload them. I was going
to make this embarrassing (on Lady Maria's part) video
of her almost often predictability and me plaguing her with
viscerals. Funny story actually. I hope to beat her before
this year ends.

What's your favourite weapon in Bloodborne so far?
How about Dark Souls, the original, the one and only?

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-12-05 03:50:31 +0000 UTC]

Sure, though...I wonder when that'll be.

My main has been the threaded cane ever since.
It fit my character so much that I created the "doctor"
persona for him.
My favorite weapon from Dark Souls...that's difficult.
I'd have to say the Uchigatana though. Never betrays.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-12-05 04:03:53 +0000 UTC]

Uchigatana? I've heard others say that there are better
Katana-class weapons to use, but I don't know what they
are yet, since I'm only up to the Bell Gargoyles.
The framerate actually made me stroll casually off the edge
of the roof. Twice. Ah, well. I'm using the Uchigatana right
now, and it feels pretty good. What element would it go with?

I'm guessing the Threaded Cane is fast, but not as rapid as
dual blades or something? I've only ever tried the tutorial
area of Bloodborne with the Saw Cleaver and the Hunter's
Pistol... I should try the cane, shouldn't I. It sounds classy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-12-05 04:13:19 +0000 UTC]

Uchigatana is a true friend if you take care of it.
I think you should go with magic then enchanted,
I heard a lot of bosses sorta hate that kind of thing.

You're right, the cane isn't as fast as the Blades of Mercy,
but it's fast enough that the next hit lands just a little after the
enemy's stagger animation ends. This is in normal form BTW, not
in trick mode. It's about 1.5x slower, but its range is thrice greater.
And yep. It's all that class.

072210 In reply to SaneKyle [2015-12-05 17:22:20 +0000 UTC]

I heard magic scales with INT? I'm a PvE pyromancer going
for ATT 50, DEX 45, a little STR, and everything else in END...
though "everything else" doesn't really matter since I can't
exactly go online for the best PvP, anyways. Oh, and I prefer
Fashion Souls (and Fashion Hunter 4 Ultimate) over min-maxing,
so does a magic weapon look cool or the same as standard?

Ohh, that timing is actually a lot better to deal with! And three
times the range sounds very, very useful...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneKyle In reply to 072210 [2015-12-06 02:35:22 +0000 UTC]

Pyromancy is always the best starting build. I'm more
of Fashion Souls, but complete armor sets in MH are
already great aesthetic fashion for me.

Weapons don't really change appearance according to
what element you've added onto them, sadly. I was thinking
if it was fire, you'd get an eternally burning katana like it
came straight out of a smith's forge. That's awesome.
But not here. T_T

Yeah, tell that to Lady Maria. Before I get confident enough
to try at her again, I'll need to stock up on vials and bullets because
after 3 New Games, they are finally exhausted.
