I hope I get to go there either this fall or in Spring... or both!

Do it, I'm sure you'll find different things based on the season. My brother told me about his trip in the fall where he found some Central Newts in their eft stage. We went to the same spot this spring and managed to find lots of Central Newt larvae and one very awesome adult male. This was taken at Snake road though, it was quite a mess from all the rain. Lots of puddles on the road full to the brim with tadpoles.

I've already found newt efts. I'm mostly hoping for Shawnee kings, intergrade milks, northern copperheads, and a couple other lifers, but it all depends on what other opportunities arise. So far, I think I have Arizona in September and Florida in October too, which is a priority, but I think Shawnee is a for sure in spring.

Ahh well, we did find 3 Northern Copperheads on our trip & a Spectacled Kingsnake (2/3 Copperheads were found in the same location as the Kingsnake on a different day). I already mentioned that we found a Red Milksnake on Snake road to you earlier as well.

Awesome. The kingsnake up there would have been a "Shawnee" which is actually just an intergrade between a speckled king and a black king. The whole Shawnee area is a melting pot for intergrade snakes. Red xeastern milks start intergrading nearby, northern x southern x Osage copperheads I believe, southern x northern black racers, Texas x black rats, prairie x northern ringnecks, etc.
That's one of the things that fascinates me about it.
