Description This is my new baby hooded rex rat named Stewart (Stewie). He's a tiny adorable little guy whom I believe is about 4-5 weeks old.

He's going to be Stella's pal when he's older, and once she has been properly spayed. And no, I didn't name his after Stewart Little. He's named after the classy as hell actor Jimmy Stewart.

Such a sweetie!
May I ask why you´re spaying? And keeping males + females?
I have two males and one female, so I´m just curious about your reason for it

By spaying Stella, I'm getting rid of her risk for developing mammary gland tumors which they are so prone to. Of course it doesn't mean that she won't develop tumors elsewhere, but it does make a difference. Plus if she is going to be able to even play with Stewart, she'll have to be spayed (male rats can impregnate a female in as little as five seconds).

I plan on having them be cage mates so neither one is lonely. I also like having males and females, because you really get to experience two very different personality types.

And yes, Stewart is such a little cutie. If I have my hand in his cage, he'll immediately run over and plop himself in it.

Mostly the same reason as me then
I will be keeping only boys after my girl is gone tho..
Females are too hyper for me..
I have my boys neutered too tho..(since she was only 8 weeks or something when I got her, and I was initially told that they didn´t spay until 5months age or something..)

Aww

When I got Stella she was six weeks old, and my brother wanted to wait to spay her until she was sixteen weeks old. We haven't quite gotten around to it yet, but he's an exotics veterinarian so he'll be taking care of her surgery. But we have time since Stewart is staying in his cage downstairs. I'm not going to be keeping them in the same room (let alone same floor) for about a month of quarantine. Rats are also quite prone to respiratory infections, and they can take a while to show signs of having it. So it's best to give little Stewart a month of quarantine to make sure he's got a clean bill of health and doesn't pass anything he could have onto Stella.

I do have a tendency to prefer the personality of male rats over females, but for the past few years all I've had have been females. So, both hold a special place in my heart. When I got Stella, I originally planned on finding a boy, but I fell in love with her and had to take her home.

I agree with you there
I don´t have an option of quarantine them sadly (I´m only allowed to have rats in my bedroom)
I´ve gotten a lot of mixed messages from my vet(or the other people working there).. But at least she´s spayed now, and the boys were neutered anyway..
