Description Sketch I did a year ago. I was in a weird sketch-note phase. The sketch should feel sorta three-dimensional. I was trying to use trompe l'oeil. References... I don't think I used any; I read many anatomy books, yet I draw no better ^^'' Usually I just think of myself sitting the character's pose, and imagine the way my bones would twist, which muscles strain or relax.... But then again, I'm a strange cookie...

Going to submit my color/clothing/shading notes a bit later perhaps...

+Edit: Made it a bit darker... looks too light after I uploaded it. ^^

Enjoy.

Wow!!!! Love the shading. Makes me think that I'm looking at Leonardo Da Vinci's notebooks.

Oh, brilliant drawing! Looks just like my anatomy books Reminds me of the horror of learning the hand...... Which book do you use for anatomy studies?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sashas In reply to miinna [2009-05-23 01:14:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.

For anatomy drawing in general, I use Gray's Anatomy (which you can find free online), Peck's Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist, Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life (free online), and Anatomy for the Artist by Barcsay. All have excellent images of bones, Bridgman focuses more on drawing the figure though. : )

You're welcome.

I have Gray's anatomy (the big brick-like book....) and I use that for my anatomy studies. I think the most common one is Netter though, and I know he painted all his anatomy pictures by hand I should really try do some anatomy drawings, must be good practice

The hand looks amazing and very realistic O_O

I had to draw all the bones of the arm and hand because it was my biggest weakness xD
Awesome job! ^_^

oddballoffun [2007-09-27 03:30:31 +0000 UTC]

Oooh I knew it! I love drawing anatomy too, especially hands, I think i memorised the shape and position of all the Carples when I decided to make an anally retentive sculpture of the hand bones. I was totally O-C about the size and shape of them.
Just gotta say, although everything else looks brilliant, the Radius looks a little big compared to the rest of the hand... Granted though I use my own x-rays as reference and female bones are slighter than male ones (and im tiny), if the reference you were usign is male.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sashas In reply to oddballoffun [2007-09-27 18:56:35 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the feedback : ) The radius may be a bit big... though it's around 2 to 2.5 times the size ulna so if it's off it's only by a little. I used no references for this, though the anatomy books are almost always based on male anatomy... and then they just have a short piece on the difference at the end. ^^''

You take x-rays of your hands? O.O

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

oddballoffun In reply to sashas [2007-09-28 01:05:11 +0000 UTC]

I was looking compared to the overall sieze of tha hand, but it still rocks anyway
I always find it a bit annoying when anatomy books do that, I find it far more interesting to compare the differences between male and female anatomy, rather than just have one as a staple and then mention the female form at the end like its a mutation lol.
i've got a ton of x-rays of my hands, I've got bone tumours all through them and have had a bunch of surguries on them. The x-rays I get to keep, and I'm not one to pass up an art opportunity!
Alhtough i find it strange, the pictures in the books always have the bones fitting snugly together like a jigsaw puzzle, when they dont. The carples float in fluid and cartliage and there is distinct gaps between the finger joints where the cartliage sits.
I guess they think it looks prettier, or something. either that or im just broken.

question, on the set of bones that make up the wrist, the base diagram shows 8 main ones and one minor. but the literal diagram seems to have one missing. that a mistake or does it not show from this angle?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sashas In reply to GatoNegroLoco [2007-09-24 02:54:52 +0000 UTC]

Thank goodness... I was beginning to think no one was paying attention. One bone isn't missing, the scaphoid bone--the upper right wrist bone--actually takes up too sluts, and it sort of extends back. Thanks for paying attention XD
