Description A marker portrait of the Korean singer 'T.O.P' from the group 'Big Bang' I did to cheer up a good friend of mine. She loves Big Bang and their odd, horrendously catchy hiphop tunes about lollipops and such.

This was actually quite fun to do: this Top guy has such interesting tones in his skin.

Reference image: some Vogue promotion image I found on Yahoo! images- nothing at all special.

Media: Letraset Tria and Promarkers with edding fineliner on Bristol board, A4.

Top- Big Bang, South Korea, his mother, that guy G-Dragon, etc.

mmmmmm lovely marker blending!! i am always nervous to do accurate skintones with markers. getting those subtle hues right is so tricky! i am very much a fan of his shiny-blue korean hair.

I'm terrified of trying to do accurate skintones in marker, too. They're such an unforgiving medium so I find that they're really useful for 'mental colour mixing' or what have you. I only got lucky on this drawing because I used bristol board which made the blending really easy!

All Koreans have blue hair; this is fact.

i'm working on a piece right now that is taking its time revealing itself because i'm a bit timid with my prismas. but so much fun!
pssst i drew you soemthing : [link]

Don't worry about it man, the image will reveal itself. The most important thing is to kick the markers' asses and make them timid of you rather than you timid of them. The more confident you are with them the better the results, although the layered technique of working from lightest to darkest tone is generally recommended.

That is bloody beautiful right there.

Nice marker colouring, there's so much variation in his skintone, but it looks very smooth. And I love how you enhance the shape of his face with small, sketchy pen lines.

Duuuude, coulda sworn it was paint from the thumbnail and from scrolling down through it, you and your markers, they're like an extension of your hand!

That hair is fantastic, as are those lips. I love how you've included the lineart-shading-block lines too, if you know what I mean there :3

D'aw man, whisht! I'm just a marker fangirl unfortunately.

That's exactly what they are! Everyone seems to think that's some sort of aesthetic quirk of mine but those random wisps are actually for marking out shading/ planes of the face. Thank you for noticing!
