Description I've been offline for an eternity, but today I finally managed to upload something I made a couple of weeks ago.
It's the so called "nut", the most important part of the crossbow I'm working on right now.
It holds the sinew with the two "teeth" on its top, untill the trigger is pulled. The nut is held to the wooden stock by a bolt, that goes through the drilled hole in the center. It is able to rotate freely on this axle, when the lever of the release mechanism is pulled, therefore releasing the sinew and the bolt.
If someone has some cool idea on how the overall design of the crossbow should look like, be free to tell me!

Edit: uploaded a sketch to explain the mechanism [link]

Hehe Sorry for late reply, but I didn't really expect much action on here
Yeah I'm still working on it, but I completely changed the layout of this one. You can check the gallery, if you have not yet done so. There's tons of uploads on that topic. I have done quite a lot of work on it lately, but I have not yet taken any pics of the new status. So you'll be the first to know that I decided to sandblast the throwing arms. I hope you'll appreciate this honour

How did you shape the nut?

Ages of filing! I didn't use my lathe for this one and I don't have a metal mill, so I had to stick to the traditional methods...

I just bought another ton of equipment and heavy machines for my workshop, so I am actually too poor to aquire some decent wood! But the worse problem is, that I have actually no idea how the thing should look like when its finished. I mean should it be a traditional design, one with a pistol grip or something totally different?

I would like it to be a traditional design, WITh a pistolgrip and som cool more triangular-likish shape front xD But thats just my opinion ^^

I'm sorry, I forgot that I already have the trigger mechanism finished. So I won't realise a pistol grip on this one. Could you please be a little more precise on the triangularish shape? A sketch with some of your ideas would be overly awesome!

Ah, I'll make one :3 Nut I'm not an expert on how crossbows work so it might be a bit wrong I guess xD

Yeaaaahhh dude your so totally awesome!
I really apreciate this! You can just google for reference pics. The only fixed pieces are the nut and the long lever that goes along with it. Everything else is up to you!
