I painted this as a surprise gift for and her husband , as a thanks for having me over last week, and also to help replace some of the art they lost in the Binghamton floods last September!8x10 Acrylic on Wood

Thank you! I'm glad you like the artwork. I confess at first I completely despised acrylics and we spent years butting heads until I finally figured out how to make them do things I wanted them too. I have never used retarded gel before, so I guess that would be a no!

I know that retarder gel is supposed to slow down the drying time and help do the wet on wet techniques the oil paint can do, but with acrylics. Its tricky but fun.
I alos love how you can make your acrylic paintings look like gouache or watercolors.

The way you captured the expression on the crow, is simply perfect! You can really feel him either holding in a laugh, or smiling down at someone bellow.
The shading and technique used with the acrylic paint, is gorgeous, you truly have mastered this medium!

I wish I had a friend who would paint me one! I love crows and ravens this is wonderful. That is just how they look down on me when I ride my bike in the mornings around the pond. Your friends are truly blessed to have such a caring friend.
