Description
at last i get to put up some jewellery... this is based on one of my earliest designs that was maybe a little too ambitious when it was originally drawn, so i left it for a year. plus i just didn't know what stone would work in a design like this, too much colour and it would be top heavy and wouldn't work for me. it needed to be a stone that would be large but subtle and elegant... and just a little bit different.
then i aquired a large cabochon mother-of-pearl stone from a friend... the jewellery god's had spoken... it was time to tackle the beast.

the design is loosly based on a series of photographs of unfurling fronds of the adiantum pedatum (maidenhair fern) by karl blossfeldt. the piece itself is sterling silver with 18k gold beads. the framing around the stone is matted to add a little textural contrast (i did originally polish it but then it would detract from the stone). the main section is approx. 9cm in length.

it was as fiddly as hell but also an excellent challenge and i had a lot of fun making it.
