Actually, that's probably a good thing. Picard and Riker both wear red shirts. And Janeway in Voyager, but that's another story.

In TNG red shirts don't die as much as in TOS. He's ok.

People! Both red and gold jackets in the TNG series have both been killed! Not one or the other, BOTH! There were very little blue jackets present, so I'm not too sure on them, but I'm sure that they were taken out as well.
And off that note...TNG rules!

you have to be an ensign to work on a starfleet vessel.
so...most of the people on board are Ensigns.
originally red shirts die more often then not.
in the TNG series gold was the security color, but im sure more reds still died. -,- love that joke even tho id be a red.

Heh. Worf and Geordi started off with red shirts... and switched over to gold. There's a message there.
Whenever Wesley wasn't driving the ship, we had an endless conveyor-belt of faceless people in red Picard called "Ensign, alter speed to Warp 3!" They didn't even have names!
The only one worth mentioning was Ro Laren -- and they didn't do a very good job with her, either.

It was the yellow shirts in next gen that got it... unless its a red shirt at the helm we haven't met before... Then Nagilum's gonna get ya...

I don't see any reason why he'd be annoying to you other than he was made smarter than you, so I see you more as jealous.
Wes was cool!

Well, since he's only a character, he shouldn't be annoying then!
You're not a fan or true fan of TNG at all!

C'mon, they don't apply with Scotty either, they only apply with security guys, but Wesley and Scotty are Engineering Redshirts, so it's different

No, I don't want him to die... the one who dies and actually never dies is Kirk, Spock or other alien killed him lots of times

The-Mind-Controller In reply to PseudonymousRMY [2012-10-08 02:11:56 +0000 UTC]
Basically it was just if you were an extra on the show. Plus there were a few blue shirts that got killed too but everybody forgets them.
Example:
Lt. Karen Tracy was killed by Jack The Ripper in "The Wolf In The Fold" in the original Star Trek.

PseudonymousRMY In reply to The-Mind-Controller [2012-10-08 02:15:28 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I saw that episode... still the clichΓ© thing applies for security, cause if you were an extra, you either was a 'pilot' I think, the ones that were just looking at controls, or a redshirt, and for extras that means security, so it was pretty much the reason redshirt always got killed

mdbruffy [2012-10-08 01:29:13 +0000 UTC]
Well, you're going to get alot of opinions on both sides with that one. For my 2 cents, The writers didn't know how to use him. GR gave them this teenager and he didn't give them any guidelines on how to write for him. They only managed to use him correctly in 2 episodes- "Pen Pals" and "First Duty". Don't blame the character- or the actor- blame writers that didn't know what they were doing.

I am now aware of that but I really didn't mind him too much. He was a bit of a mary-sue though.

My opinion of him is neither overwhelmingly positive nor negative. For me, at least, he was just sort of... there. His Mary-Sue-ness didn't really start to bug me until I got more involved in the fandom.
