i dig the angular shape of the bird. reminds me of the old partridge family bird during the opening of the show.

Oh, I remember that bird! The shape of the tin sort of directed the line I drew to start the bird. I liked the square shape so I kept it. I am glad you like it too.!

Depends upon what was on the metal. Oily substances will not allow for acrylics to adhere. A lot of paint used today are acrylics or polymer based (I think!). I simply sand to roughen up the surface, apply a translucent ground (Golden's Matte Medium) and then draw and paint. Oil paints should work on metal too if the surface is prepared properly with an appropriate ground (gesso).
