Cool. It looks like a cross between baseball, and golf, and croquet, played with a modified hockey stick! ^^

Are you sure? Maybe they all evolved from croquet. Or socc-- ah, do you call it soccer or football? I know most places outside the USA call it football and... if they call it football, what do they call what we call football?

I was being fascetious about them evolving from cricket
In conversation we call it soccer but all the clubs are football clubs. We call your version either American Football or Grid Iron.

What? Wait, wait. Soccer has clubs in it? You do mean the sport where you kick around a geodesic ball with a black-and-white pattern, trying to get it into a net past a goalie, right? I don't recall there being any clubs in soccer.

Do you call Cricket "soccer"? If so, what do you call the sport with the geodesic inflatable ball (which is about the size of an American basketball)?

Hmm, "Grid Iron". I think I like that name better. Less Yankee-centric.

Hahaha, no the club is the group/team/outfit. Such as Waitakere Football Club, or South Canterbury Old Boys Football Club. If you want to play soccer, you play in a team that belongs to a club. A club will have a range of teams from premier, senior, high school and junior teams. Does that make more sense? So to play soccer people join a football club.

Cricket is just cricket. If it's called anything else it would be BYC which stands for backyard cricket.

I have no idea where grid iron came from.

Well, 'the gridiron' is kinda slang for the stadium it's played on out here. Maybe it comes from that.

And yes, now I get it! XD
