Description
This I think will remain my absolute all time favorite.In a 4 week span of time, I sat on my butt bent over this thing with a toothpick, a glue-stick and about 9 different little plastic containers filled with punch-hole dots...and I loved every second of it *grin* In fact, I might just do more portraits just like this one of other people, famous or otherwise.
Mediums: newspaper, photocopied paper (for teh blackest color), conte, white gel pen, pencils, eraser

Someone may have already asked this, but did you do a rough sketch first or did you dive right into the hellish world of paper circles? I really admire your patience, and it shows in the final work. Wonderful job.

We all had to choose a magazine image in black and white to work from and we had to be as close to that image as possible. What we all had to do was transfer a simple line drawing from that original image, just so we could have something to contain the pieces. So basically, I followed the outline and that magazine image to determine which 'shade' of paper to use...
It LOOKS hellish I suppose...but it really was one of the funnest projects I did!

No problem, I think you should try to do more of it, it seems you have kinda tilted towards a solid anime kinda look, you should try working with both styles.

Well, the anime stuff is my own personal artwork...whereas this work is all school work or work related in some way...it's very rare for me to draw realistically for myself...I just don't enjoy it as much. mind you...as I seem to go along, I seem to incorporate more and more realism into my anime inspired work...so you never know...

Thats very impressive. I really love it. GREAT texture-it works really well. You did a really really good job with this-I'm glad you're proud of it. Your use of lights and darks is very mature. Great photo choice, too. She looks very great overall!

Wow. First, I'd like to say, that is an awesome piece. Second, I should hope you do more of them. Not only is that one of the most unique techniques i have seen so far, but it also gives a very pleasing result.

Wonderful concept and such a creative idea. This is well done and the idea of taking circular punched wholes. gluing them down and creating such a magnificent picture of such a beautiful person + the time taken to do this really shows how much patience and dedication a real artist is. This is truely a stunning piece. Much much that i can say only that it's well done. Great job on it! Congrats to you!

I definately want to do more portraits using that technique...it was such a fun experiement to do...and it drove my mom nuts with all teh little bits of paper flying around *lol*

I started with her neck and worked my way up going back and forth...there are some areas like her jawline which are actuallu physically thicker when you touch it...this scan was from a photograph of teh piece...actually a lot of these are photographs ratehr than scans...once I have a connection at home, I'll probably end up replacing everything with better quality scans...
