they are very cute and funny to watch, especially when they fly! Like little clockwork toys!

hehe yeah puffins are great!
I used a Nikon D200 with a very big lens the friend I was shooting with that day lent my for the shot, was at least capable of 500mm focal length but I can't remeber the exact spec. of the lens I'm afraid!
I normally shoot with a 70-200mm F2.8 with a teleconverter to double the range but this puffin was too far away for my lens, all my other puffin shots are taken with my 70-200mm so that range is normally fine for getting puffins

beautiful shoot~ ^v^
love how the puffin w/ the fish is the main character and everyone else is blurred~
it really highlights the fact that he/she has fish x3
I wonder,what other things do they eat~?

Puffins are one of my fave birds... Love this shot not only for that reason though. The composition is great although its very close to its feet. The background is nicely blurred so not to be intrusive. xx

I know its tough, it is ridiculosly competitive. Especially if you want to work with the charimatic creatures like primates or in my case marine mammals. Applying to everything is defo the key, and volunteering work really goes a long way to helping, I spent a year after I graduated from undergrad doing vollie work before starting my PhD. You get great experience, references and sometimes even PhD offers through vollie work! (I got 3 PhD offers from volunteering so its definatly a good thing to do).
Camera is in the repair shop as I type. Hopefully will get it back before june >.<

LunnefΓ₯gel!! Damn, you're so lucky to have them in England. And Norway has 'em too, but yeah...
We had them here in Sweden on the West Coast, many years ago. They sadly went extinct.

that is a real shame, they are great little birds, full of character.
