Haha right? To be completely honest I got excited thinking it was a dragons tail before I read the title.

I think the shading on the racetrack looks really good! and I love how the landscapes fades away in the distance ~ <3 <':

mattepainting? XD that was a new word for me! the word "matte" means actually math in swedish x'D
But it sounds awesome that there will be an animation based on this scene, I can't wait to see it! How far have you got or how much is finished? ;D

Mattepaintings are used as backdrops for films and animations and such =] They often are a combination of photography and painting, but can just be painting as well XD mine has some photos blended in as well~ it's taking forever because I want to make it detailed and realistic XD
For the overall project I still have allot to go @_@ it's a large project. I have modeled the main racer and mostly textured it, but still needs some modifications. I have also done a basic storyboard and concept speedpaints/sketches. I need to model the track, finish the mattepainting, make another racer [will be a slightly modified version of the first] and then animate and put it all together. It's going to be interesting animating 3D objects and making them fit into a 2D background while trying to make it all fit in and look natural XD it will probably be a learning experience~

ooooh such paintings, now I finally know what they're called XD (had no idea before)
But yea, I bet it takes forever ;O I know myself how many details you've to do before it looks somewhat realistic! (I'm myself trying to do a realistic painting right now and it's hell x'D) Either it's not enough shadows, highlights or details :U
Sounds really complicated with all those things you've to do! I've no idea when you animate 3D objcts but I'm sure it's the same principle with having a lot of pictures to make it look like it moves, if there isn't any kind of more simnple way in the 3D programs xD
But sounds like it's gonna be very awsome when you've finished it, with all the details and work you're putting into it!

I dunno but I really like this one.
Maybe it wasn't what you were going for, but it feels like a story.
