Description Just finished this one today! Yes, I'm still doing my "Antlered Kings" series, but this was just a break in between that and my duck stamp pieces. I've been playing Endless Ocean for the Wii recently and have been inspired by that as well as ~namu-the-orca and her lovely cetacean drawings. In fact, I'm even thinking that after my aforementioned series comes to completion and I finish my duck stamp entries, I may start a dolphin and whale series of sorts. I've never painted them all that much, but have always loved them--orcas and common dolphins are my personal favorites.

These are a small pod of atlantic spotted dolphins (which I've also always loved). I tried to get the image as close to the real life drawing, but the real drawing is a bit more of a sky-ish blue, not quite the cerulean blue that this is (it's still just as rich, though).

Watercolor pencils (without the water) on 9" X 12" sketchbook paper. No refs, so I understand if the anatomy/markings are a bit off.

Beautiful. Reminds me of illustrations in old biology books my mum has.

This is really beautiful! I love how soft and smooth the coloring is, and the dolphins look so content. I love the light reflections on them as well, it makes the scene feel very realistic.

Thanks very much! Wow, I've never seen wild dolphins before--only the ones at Sea World and such. That must have been a really cool experience! Do you know what kind they were?

They were the bottlenose dolphins and yes, it was an amazing experience that I won't forget. They were stealing the fishemen's fish everytime they cought something, they are so smart. But yes, when you do see them wild someday they will captivate you. You are very welcome by the way

They look so realistic, the bars of watery light on their bodies look amazing, I've always had a serious soft spot for that effect that water has. Its so beautiful.

Thanks very much! I've always loved that as well, but it's a tricky thing to portray correctly! I'm learning more each time I make stuff like that.
