Description This time, due to the vote by , Monika is a humboldt squid mermaid this time.

Squid mermaids are actually quite different from kraken girls in a few ways. For one, kraken girls have a mantle on their head and the legs and tentacles on the lower half, but squid mermaids have tentacles for hair and the mantle as the lower half. Also, squid mermaids have a siphon on their head for jet propulsion. The tentacles are actually derived from the hair, and squid mermaids can turn hair into tentacles at will. This allows them to have loads of tentacles, though they usually prefer having 10. They can also extend their tentacles really far to catch prey. Their favorite food is shrimp, and they'll steal from shrimp nets to get some. They'll also eat fish, and the larger species, like giant and colossal squid mermaids, will take on sharks or even sperm whales. They fare better against them than normal squids due to their arms and their ability to hypnotize their prey with dazzling color change. They're also incredibly strong with their tentacles, and if one were to find him or herself caught in a squid mermaid's grasp, escape is next to impossible. Teaming up against them doesn't work either, as their tentacles can operate independently, allowing a squid mermaid to take on enemies even if they're not looking at them. The suckers are lined with chemoreceptors, allowing them to taste by touching. Unlike normal cephalopods, they're not colorblind and can actually see polarized light. They can also change their tentacles into hair, allowing them to conceal their tentacles and pretend to be a normal human female by hiding their mantle underwater, in order to attract men. Once their prey is within range, they'll then shoot out a tentacle to catch their prey and drag it into the water. They have a mildly venomous bite to paralyze the muscles their prey use for locomotion.

They are often very social, swimming with other squid mermaids of the same species. In some species, however, it's not too uncommon for them to cannibalize injured comrades, though this is to heal each other through revival, and after digesting and reviving their friends, they let them back out. They often will interact with humans whenever they find one, and they will play with them a lot, wrapping their tentacles around them. If the human likes them, they will keep the human with them as a husband, playing with them a lot. However, they will also nom their husbands a lot, keeping them either in the first or second stomach to carry them around underwater. When attacked, they will squirt ink as a smokescreen to escape. Their ink is interesting in that it can counter echolocation or sonar by scattering or absorbing sound. This is likely for defense against dolphins and other toothed whales.

Squid mermaids are capable of telepathy, though it works best at short distances in water, as their tentacles can shoot out electrical signals similar to brainwaves. They can also read minds by touching someone with their tentacles, which enables greater connection. They also communicate through color change to other squid mermaids. They'll form symbols of a common language that different species of squid mermaid share on their mantle or their arms. They can still talk the way humans do as well.

Mon-Ika is a Humboldt squid mermaid. These squid mermaids are rather large, at about 13.5 feet from the head to the mantle. They also have retractable hooks on their tentacles, which can deal serious damage to a person, though they usually won't use them. Normally, they're quite friendly and even curious towards human swimmers, and will check them out whenever they see one. However, when they're hungry, they'll eat ravenously, even nomming other, smaller humboldt squid mermaids. They're fast swimmers, able to reach speeds of 15 mph. They will hunt cooperatively with each other. One thing they'll sometimes do is pull prey down until it faints. Mon-Ika is unusual in keeping a third feeding tentacle. While squid mermaids can make multiple feeding tentacles from their hair, they usually just keep two. Mon-Ika's favorite activity is writing poems and cuddling her friends in her tentacles. Sometimes, she'll completely cocoon her friends with her tentacles.

Is every strand of hair a tentacle or only ten tentacles are on her head?

Any of her hairs can turn into tentacles, she just usually prefers having 11 tentacles at a time.

She seems a lot more personable than your average Humboldt.
(I’m sure you know how hangry Dosidicus gigas gets when humans are present)

That’s when they’re hungry. They’re actually quite passive when not feeding.

Still, the fact that she isn’t aggressive when nomming is a nice change. Oh geez, I just got the pun in her name.

Do you like the way I turned her hair into tentacles? I was going for something a bit unique with the squid mermaid. Also, would you let her hug you? She loves giving hugs.

I would. I’m worried she can be a bit klutzy with the rings of her suckers.

Mon-Ika: Don't worry, I'll be gentle. *She extends a tentacle to you and wraps it around you. She then unwraps it, revealing no scars.* See? I only give scars to those who attack me. Wanna cuddle?
