Description
In the autumn of my years, I resonate to summer’s plight
to relinquish times of playful sun and frou-frou dress of light,
and yield to Fall, majestic in her sombre, mellowed gown,
see the child of my own yesterday, once small, now fully grown.

It’s time I know to feel the passing rush of many years
which come so much more vividly in the reign of Autumn’s tears
See the children play outside and kick the fallen leaves
feel the winter yet to come, beneath the Autumn’s eaves.

I miss the children playing in the summer game now lost,
whipping up shock winter waves from coast to summer coast,
hiding sun one moment and the next revealing rain,
It gives an ache, a yearning for a wisdom I've to gain.

But Autumn sits upon a throne and waves her hand but slow
Long she has been waiting, watching all the children grow
She promises an inner joy and peace for which I yearn
that never could I sadly find in summer’s brightest turn.

I envy not the children now, they’ve had their summer days,
and Autumn is my time to glow and reflect the passing days,
to live in this season’s moment, appreciate the mild,
and keep inside, to hug and hide, my eternal summer child.
