Description We visited the famous Singapore Zoo today, and for such a tiny country, it's an impressively huge area of 28 hectares. Completed in 1973, it was built upon the principles of the "open zoo" concept, meaning that the animals are not kept in tiny concrete enclosures, but in rather large, nature-oriented areas. Visitors are usually separated from them by hidden or water filled moats, making for great photo opportunities.

Their most famous exhibit used to be the world's largest captive colony of orangutans, especially the famous primate matriarch Ah Meng, who passed away in 2008. But to me, the most interesting animals were the three white tigers. As you may know, the recessive gene that is responsible for their colour also controls their size, which means that these are usually larger than normal tigers. And since tigers are the biggest of the big cats, white tigers must be the most impressive cats on this planet.

And they seem to adore water.

Luckily, we were just in time to see them being fed! And if white tigers are impressive, watching them leap up to catch their meal in mid-air is even more of a photo-feast. This marked the first time that I had to resort to continuous aka machine gun mode, which I usually never ever use. But single shot mode just won't cut it when dealing with airborne tigers.

Sorry if my editing is a bit off, but as mentioned before, my laptop's screen is a bit rubbish, and I'm not very good at using GIMP. I'll post some of the nicer photos when I get home in less than a week from now.
