DescriptionFinally, here is my XChange piece for this month. Wow, I'm really happy I tried so hard on this one! This is BladeEdgeRave's character, Yayoi, who was a general pleasure to draw, even though I wanted to stab him multiple times. Although it was a real challenge, I'm very content with the outcome of this piece.DetailsMaterials.

What I like in particular is the way you draw feathers! I have been struggeling with feathers for a very long time, and I simply cannot get them as I want, not as smooth and beautiful as yours at ALL! :<
Do you have any tips/tutorials/things that might help me, and others, draw feathers as beautifully as you do? Since I really love the fluffy-ness and smoothness of them!

I'm sorry that I don't have any tutorials for wings, but here is a great website that showcases many bird wings of different species. I wasn't using this site at the time I drew this image, but I've used it a few times since then and it's a great reference.

basically, what I like to do when I'm drawing a character with wings, is find a bird wing on that site that I like the shape of. Then, I google that bird and find all kinds of images of that bird in action; it'll help you draw the wings from different angles.

Thank you very much for the site and the advice! I'm sure it'll come in handy! And feathers are -in my opinion- one of the hardest things to draw. But they look great when done correctly!

Yea, it's very useful. Good wing references! (it's quite hard to find sometimes...)
And all of what you said is so true, better get it once totally right, than ten times just quickly and rushed (and not really good).
I also really like the way you draw things like claws, horns, etc. and the anatomy of Shin ^_^ He looks so alive, more than just a drawing, but really a living creature! I try to grasp that too, but I still have a lot to learn...!

Well, I wish you luck on your endeavors! I definitely suggest some cat anatomy studying. The muscles are similar to muscles of most land mammals. It's easy to find dissection pictures of cats, if you ever wanted to look c:

But that's a nice tip still! Observing anatomy of real creatures might help for sure to make your own creation more "real".

Shin, STUNNING, as always. I am in absolute awe, the wings are just amazing, you cram so much detail into your art I have no idea how you do it. It pays off well, even togh you might not be completely happy with it, it's quite an excellent piece nonetheless.

Lol I read Yaoi too. XD Ya get upset over too simple things. Ever just took the artist within you out and placed aside, then sat back and enjoyed your own art as any other person would? I think some of that satisfaction of having done a great job could boost your talents more than mistakes could motivate you. As dark as it may be it's still a wonderful piece, and it's nice to see how you draw metallic shine, mainly because your art is usuallt matte. The detail is splendid as always.
