"Oh man, 2020, where to even start? It could've been such a awesome summer, with a bunch of great horses on the European circuit, the first year of being a proper international show rider. The plan was to bunk down in Belgium and then travel to the surrounding shows from there - Get familiar with Estoy, bring up Jim, see what Liffey can do, enjoy Blue while she lasts, then move up to 140 with Pippin. We got as far as Belgium... but instead of a show season, what I got was a lockdown with the weirdest people alive. I swear, this team. Wells is just strange, he's exactly like you'd imagine him to be from seeing him from afar. Cold, grumpy, but kinda also a decent trainer, I'll give him that. Ty is just a misogynistic arse. Jeanne has no chill. Honestly, quarantining with them was the worst. I'm glad it's over... sorta?
Anyway, as Germany lost their brain over soccer, we said goodbye to a proper show season, and instead focused on training. I can't deny that was a great opportunity to get to know my horses better. Estoy doesn't need constant training anyway, for him it was a very relaxed summer (and I think that was exactly what he needed.) Jim, on the other hand (still can't get over his name) has awesome potential but less experience, so we did lots of technical stuff. He's super sensitive and a bit of a wuss. Must be the name. Pippin's lost season bugs me the most, he's only seven and he needs the exposure. Same with Liffey, she's also seven and she needs to get a lot bolder.
Corona chilled down over the summer and I think in July it was about safe to think of shows again. Thankfully, no one of us got the disease, and all my friends are safe too, but what's going on in the US is just mad. In a way I'm glad I'm not there anymore, but... I'm very worried for my friends there.
We'd hoped for it, sure, but once we finally got to restart shows it felt weird. In the end, I guess it's still another industry. But, finally I got to experience life as a show rider on tour. It's nothing like I imagined - it's entirely different from being based in a stable and driving to a weekend show ever so often. We basically drove from Belgium to France to Germany back to France, shows mostly started Wednesday and went on until the Grands Prix on Sunday, you ride every day, sometimes several classes. Though my workload was manageable, because I only had five horses in total, and you don't bring every horse to every show (they get a break, you don't)
It's a weird life but honestly, I love it.
This week is special, we're on Fuerteventura, riding on a beach. I mean, St. Tropez is nice and all, but it has nothing on this place! I took Jim, Pip and Estoy, they're all in great form. The first class I ride is a lower two phase competition with Jim. Only the second phase is timed, so I can try and get a neat and orderly clear in. Wells says to take it easier - it's just for the experience - but I think I'm still gonna push him a little bit in the second phase, just to see how he handles speed. Wish me luck!"
YESSS another collab. It's the last one we did while I was at Fibo's place in August, we just saved it until now because we wanted to get the story rolling first.
More proof that RNG deserves Full Blown Effort Art too. >: ) just create great stuff for the sake of creating great stuff! (I will die on this hill)
Hope you like it!
