Your responses here were a lot more informative than the description at DAZ, as I was left wondering if this would replace (or block out) any background HDRIs, or position layers on seperate objects in front of them to manipulate. Since the latter seems to be the case, I'd also like to suggest stuff for the first expansion(s) (since possibilities are virtually endless with this):

1. Northern Lights: colorful effects for the skies, could make it a must-have for anyone rendering fantasy and sci-fi scenes, even for renders in space!

2. Distant weather effects. Quite often, the weather in the distance is different from the weather nearby. So, distant thunderstorms, cloudbursts and even Tornados could be a useful addition for about anyone making outdoor renders.

I really like the look of this. It looks like a more sophisticated variation on billboards.  I  use sun sky lighting with a camera in the SS sun node to control the direction of the sun. Will this product  work with that set up?

Cheers,

Alex.

Good to hear.  My budget for this week is already blown but this will be top of next week's shopping list.

Cheers,

Alex.

This sounds like just what I need. Is it only Iray or is it 3Delight compatible as well?

Iray. It would be possible to use it in 3Delight, but it won't light the scene on the sunset presets.

It's a huge rigged four-cylinder prop with transmapped cloud textures, so the cloud bits can be repositioned easily!

This sounds interesting, HDRI-based cloudy skies don't always provide quite what I'm looking for, either the sun isn't at the height I want it or the clouds don't look that great in the area the camera is looking when the sun is rotated where I want it.

This is definitely for you then. It is a giant four cylinder prop with a bone in each cylinder so the clouds can be moved and repositioned!

Looks great. I'm new to 3D work and trying to learn a few things. I've been thinking about doing an outdoor scene with a sky that's cloudy or stormy or just darkly ominous & threatening.

(On a slightly related topic I just wrapped up a render of an interior scene and the lighting gave me fits. The end product isn't really terrible but it isn't good and I used way too many lights to achieve my result (9 of them). So I'm currently reading your tutorial on three-point lighting from March 2016 to learn how to do better next time.)

Sometimes you do need more to get just the look you want. It just depends on the scene.

Maybe this is helpful for you  How I make my renders (Tutorial)As a 3000 watchers special, I'll be showing you how I make most of my renders. I'm using daz3d for my renders https://www.daz3d.com/home , which you can download for free.
I also wrote this   which is a couple of other tips and tricks.
1. Loading Character First I load in the character and give it a pose like here:

2. Posing I press strg + d to put her on the floor and make some adjustments (like for example her left hand).

If I make a custom pose, I use this tool https://www.daz3d.com/pose-builder-for-genesis-3
Or if I want to mix poses, I use this one https://www.daz3d.com/ultimate-pose-mixer
But you could also just use pins like in this tutorial
