Eh, don't be so hard on yourself about the hair. It's kind of a traditional look anyway, even if His hair might not've been that long. It's still a very deep, pensive, and somewhat grungy rendering, kind of like what He might've looked like right before (after, or during) Gethsemane.

Nice work!
First picture I've seen so far in my browsing that actually makes him look down to earth and human. Afterall, He's a PERSONAL God.

Now about the hair...

Keep up the lovely work!

I like this a lot, it strays from the fine often feminin portraits of older times and shows him as he probably would have been, more natural and for lack of a better word "male"

Jesus would have had long hair, but it would've been curly. Like most REAL jews, or any middle eastern

Sigint In reply to soytatan [2008-12-31 17:13:57 +0000 UTC]

Im sorry sir, but that is incorrect.

Christ was CALLED a Nazarite, but WAS NOT a nazarite. In Matthew 2:23 Christ is called a nazarene because he resides in Nazareth, not because he took a vow-also he wouldve been too young to have taken the vow at that time anyway. But the reason is because of his residence, not a vow.

The nazarite vow on the other hand (numbers 6) (just for arguments sake) states that the individual who takes the nazarite vow may not 1: drink wine or anything that is produced by the grape vine (6:3-4), 2: cut his hair (6:5),or 3: touch/come near the dead (6:9). If one who has taken the nazarite vow, does any of the above he has sinned (6:11 "concerning his sin because of the dead person"). So the man who does any of those and has taken the nazarite vow has sinned.

Christ new no sin-period (2 Corinthians 5:21), although He paid the penalty for it (Romans 5:16, 8:3). Christ drank wine (Matthew 11:18), and touched the dead(Luke 8:54-and she was indeed dead-"her spirit returned" after he touched her). Christ was God and as God inspired the scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16), so when Paul (as well as many extra-biblical sources, as well as statues/drawings from the time show that the traditional semitic hairstyle was short hair) wrote that long hair on a man was a shame (1 Corinthians 11:14) it was the "mind of Christ"-God's revelation-His standard. The two can not be contradictory, so in effect, by saying that Christ was a nazarite you are-due to His actions during His incarnation-saying that He is a sinner, and that God is a liar.

Now as for the fact that his hair would be curly-that is true, and my bad.

Christ was also not an effeminate man like most pictures portray. He was a carpenter (Mark 6:3) which is a very labor intensive job, and done outside most of the time, so I would imagine that He would be a very fit and strong man. Mankind and all of creation was cursed because of Adam's sin (Romans 8:20, 22), but Christ was not held under that curse (Hebrews 9:11) because He was not born of man but of woman(Genesis 3:15, Matthew 1:23), and therefore His physical body didnt suffer the debilitating effects of sin either.

thank you. his hair is wrong (Christ wouldnt have had long hair and still be a nazarene-just because someone called Him that didnt mean it was true-He was without sin (personal or imputed), and the nazarite code (leviticus) wouldnt have allowed him to touch the dead, etc.), but i still think it is a good picture.

He looks kind of like... Tom Cruise?!?!

sorry I just watched The Last Samurai..

but I love it... a lot more intense than most people draw Him

Sigint In reply to fqtt [2008-08-03 21:55:12 +0000 UTC]

He was an intense guy. actually He does kind of look like tom cruise in the last samurai(which was an awesome movie in my opinion). in reality Christ didnt have long hair, that is a misunderstanding of "He will be called a Nazarene". sorry, i get off subject, thank you for the compliment.

hahaha yeah, it was a great movie! the end was kind of slow for me, but... the rest was amazing

hey it's cool Yeah I was looking at that link in one of your earlier comments... pretty interesting!! goes along with the other generalized things, like that there were only 3 wisemen... when in reality there were probably plenty more & how Moses is always portrayed talking directly to Pharaoh when it was Aaron that actually spoke for him...

hehe, now look who's getting off subject, sorry

I BELIEVE THE WIDELY USED VERSION IS MICHAELANGELO?

yeah, i know (see my response to aquasnake). it was something i drew prior to actually reading that. im planning on doing a new version just havent gotten around to doing that unfortunately. on a similar note, i am (assuming everything works out right) starting at the college of biblical studies in houston in the spring, it was going to be the fall, but there are some classes i need to finish up before transferring.

I have MANY stories and characters that I would love to see published but it is so overwhelming to try and do it all. If I can get picked up by a big publisher, I hope to do my stories along with the artists that I think best suites them. When it happens, you are on my list.

I also was duped into buying that Marvel tryout book. Your version of that horrible plot was the best I've seen. Have you gotten any good responces from publishers?

Yeah, sometimes I wonder how they actually pick pencilers. Is there some "secret society" we have to join lol ? If so, I guess I might end up self publishing.
