Description
So, I read that book, "Twilight Sparkle and the Crystal Heart Spell." Super adorable and full of puns. But aside from every single punning opportunity being taken, it briefly talks about how Cadance became an alicorn. It was super duper short, all of 2 pages in the gigantic font that kids books use, but still! It was way more than we had before. Her story may be thrown our the window by some later episode, but until then, I'm satisfied to accept it as temporary canon.Brief summary for those who will never bother reading it:
Cadance was a pegasus baby who was found in woods and taken in and raised by earth ponies. She filled others with warmth and the "urge to protect her" (wtf, really? boooooo.....) by the natural love and compassion she held for everypony. An evil pony enchantress (who, I can only assume, did evil pony dances, and put others in evil pony trances), named Prismia, used her prized possession, a mini crystal heart like necklace, to leech the love out of all the villagers. Cadance sure does have a lot of run-ins with love leeches... So that necklace also amplified Cadance's love and defeated the baddy by, I can only guess, overloaded the crystal and reversed the spell on Prismia. That's what i got from it, at least. When Prismia changed her ways, Cadance got transported to that glowy, alicorn-making realm, "a place that nopony except Princess Celestia had ever been!" Poor Luna always gets forgotten... or got alicorned some other way. It says Celestia discovered Cadance there and took her to be her royal niece and live in Canterlot. It goes on a little more about how she attended Celestia's school, solved a whole bunch of conflicts and helped ponies find love, despite not finding love for herself (sans a crush on Shining Armor).
Anyway, its a really inexpensive book that can be read in an hour or two, so go read it.
So, this is that moment of Celestia finding Cadance in the alicornication realm. New style, just trying something different.

Well done! So frightening but yet so reassuring of what's about to happen to young Cadance. I love that calming expression on Celestia's face as Cadance encounters the powerful princess she will later be proud to call Aunty.

untill there's an episode that says otherwise, this is 100% cannon. as for her birth-parents, and being an orphan, look at her cutie-mark. the Crystal Heart i say her mother was the last Crystal Princess before being overthrown. wonder if she ever stayed in touch with her adopted parents after this? even being taken in by Celestia, they were her first family, and will always have a place in her heart.

This must've been a watershed moment for Celestia. She's been without Luna for over 900 years*, and out of the blue here comes this young filly who managed to reach alicornhood all on her own. For somepony who's seen dozens (hundreds?) of friends and confidants come and go, it's not hard to imagine how thrilled Celestia must have been to finally have somepony to truly call "family" again, even if it was through adoption.
Even if Cadance wasn't the one destined to save Luna, she helped care for and bring Celestia in contact with the one who did: Twilight Sparkle. Cadance also fell for Twilight's older brother, and thus Celestia witnessed Shining Armor's courtship of Cadance in addition to Twilight's learning and development of her magical abilities. After Twilight learning the magic of friendship saved Luna in the pilot (and two seasons' worth of time afterward during which Luna had extensive background rehabilitation), Celestia approved Cadance's wish to marry Shining Armor so as to make both Shining and Twilight part of her family. It may not have been obvious at first, but in addition to Cadance being the apple of Celestia's eye for some time, but the link to do something Celestia probably never was able to do before: build an honest-to-goodness family she can love and be proud of.
* More specifically, I conjecture that Cadance's ascension took place about a decade before the start of the series. She looks like a preteen/tween here, and was a teen fillysitting a "blank-flank" Twilight. Thus Cadance had already been a Princess a couple years before first meeting Twilight. The difference in age between the present and "Cutie Mark Chronicles" flashbacks (and Spike's maturity level) imply 7-8 years passage of time between the two. Between those two facts, we get a timespan of about a decade.

I like the way you captured the scene. The angle with which the characters are seen is very dynamic. Also the body poses are vivid, supple, well proportioned, and very believable and three dimensional. The shading and faces also add a strong sense of drama and vitality to the shot.
What is particularly liked is that the facial expressions tell the story in a very believable way. Cadence genuinely looks terrified, and (particularly as a little girl) is not taking being all alone in a strange new location as ideal. The fact that half of her body (face included) is shaded also conveys a sense of being overwhelmed by the new situation (and literally still in the dark).
This is where Celestia comes in. Her expression casts a very warm and non-threatening presence. Although she is technically looking down on her (implying being in a position to wield considerable dominance over her), it's coming from a position of genuine compassion, not the least of which is a sincere and disarming smile. Taking a look at her eyebrow, it also seems Celestia is taking notice of how scared Cadence looks, and is trying to first take gradual steps in reassuring her (caring about her and what she is experiencing, in other words).
The fact, also, that the half of Celestia that Cadence is seeing (from how Celestia is shaded) is illuminated by the light (the same light that is darkening the most of what Celestia is seeing in Cadence) also metaphorically speaks of what has been (and still is) a darker path for Cadence now being illuminated (particularly by a friendly and compassionate guiding light). The fact that it is the same light shading Cadence and illuminating Celestia (the part Cadence is seeing) helps support the indication that a very serious change in perspective is about to happen. It is definitely better that the shift is a positive one, since, if the location and person looking down on her are altered (particularly if it wasn't someone like Celestia), this could have been a very dark pic.
Details of the pic aside, it is personal preference for her backstory to be altered in the main canon (if done, and it is still appreciated having the book's version disclosed in the description). Having origins as an orphan tend to be overdone. At the same time, her growing up in a distant village may also have potential, since it could be where she learned to play all the games she eventually passed on to Twilight.
Since relations between pegasus and non-pegasus ponies (either earth or unicorn ponies) tend to be common, it can easily be seen of Cadence's parents being one of them. Possibly also that Cadence's parents, although meeting their needs, had a more modest income, and could only rarely afford to make the distant trip to the summer sun festival (possibly her first being in Canterlot was as an infant, and the next time being when she is considerably older). Cadence Celestia perform it for the first time, as a child, may be a basis for taking a possible interest in her and Canterlot from there (different angle than Twilight's, but still may be feasible).

I'm happy you could see all the concepts and emotions I had intended to convey, even if some of those ideas weren't all consciously done.
I can certainly understand the hesitation about the orphan back story. So long as they don't overplay it or fall into certain tropes, if they ever decide to expand on her back story at all, I'm mostly ok with. Honestly, her origin story is the only thing from that book I did like. Twilight's section of it was sorely lacking and out of character for her. I like the idea that she was a pegasus and a nopony on top of that. Orphan or not, I'm glad they show that, again, alicorn status is achieved and earned, rather than given or being born with it.

Besides not overplaying the orphan bit, you're right about the alicorn breakdown. That is, becoming one is earned, and under certain circumstances. Twilight had frequent contact with Celestia before her transformation, but, as an ordinary pegasus, Cadence would come from different circumstances (not frequent contact like that).
The part in the book, of Cadence stopping love leeching/loveless magic (Primia, Chrysalis, Sombra...) without the use of magic herself, may be on to something. Particularly if those practices have been going on for generations (despite Celestia's methods of trying to enforce against this), and if Cadence would consistently demonstrate ability to stand up to this, that would make her ascension to alicorn status a response to a need (rather than an accessory). That is, her added abilities would fulfill a need for someone to more effectively help reverse some pretty vicious magical practices that have been going on for generations (no reason also not to encourage love in ordinary ponies in the process).

Heck if I know... Faust said in a tweet that she had envisioned Celestia and Luna as being born alicorns, but the current writers could completely go a different route. Personally, I'd like it if they do change that. I'd love Celestia and Luna to have been born as earth ponies or something and we have a consistent method of making alicorns.

Fantastic piece, while I have only a nominal affection for the book (sans one fanfic re-interpretation of it) I think this is a fantastic picture, Cadence, looks great the starry realm is very well done and Celestia is magnificent!

Right there with ya. The rest of the book was ok for what it was intended for but it wasn't anything spectacular. It's just that one scene that grabbed my attention and imagination and apparently it did the same thing for that author.

Equestria Daily had questions Lauren Faust answered, she stated Celestia and Luna were born as Alicorns and aren't gods. (Though it does make me wonder why Luna was with Celestia when Twilight went into that realm.
I know its been rumored there is a bigger bad behind everything, I wonder if that realm is the domain of some greater good that opposes that bigger bad.

I'd say since it mostly had to do with Season 1 its most likely true. Especially considering Celestia and Luna are the only two Alicorns with mobile manes which Cadence and Twilight who do not have. (Hinting on the fact they were both originally non-Alicorns.)
I think the Bigger Bad is probably true because we still aren't fully aware of what made Luna into Nightmare Moon, (unless the recent comic issues are counted but otherwise no there, though it would still make one wonder how they came to be.) how Discord got free as I doubt just a small argument from the CMC alone was enough adn even if the elements had weakened they were restored before he broke free, King Sombra is probably the biggest mystery and where did the Changelings come from is also something to ponder.
The greater good thing can be pointed at with Celestia's unknown actions and that mysteriously place Twilight was with Celestia at right before she earned her wings.

Wait... what?! Luna hasn't gone to the Celestial plane but Celestia... I... but then how did Luna become an alicorn?! I always assumed she and Celestia were BORN alicorns but if Celestia has made no other alicorns why the hell was she there and what happened with Luna... my brain hurts... a lot.
