Description
Basic Information
Name
Castail (Cass-Tay - Uhl)
(His name doesn't really have a meaning since it's made up, but considering the wide opinion is that it's a deviation of the name Castiel, his name means "Sheild of God")
Kit Name
Ocean
Age
4 1/2 Season Cycles
Gender
Male
Breed
50% Russian Blue (Mother's side)
25% Australian Mist (Father's side)
25% Rag Doll (Father's side)
Appearance
An even mixture of all his breeding, Castail has the size and fur length of a Rag doll, but the thin frame of the Australian Mist. Along with the royal blue gray shading of a Russian Blue. Due to his training as a guard, he has more muscle than the average cat, though most of it is in his upper body/shoulder region. Due to the thickness of his coat, Castail appears fuller than he really is. He is actually quite slim, and has no trouble with speed. Because of his war experiences, Castail is covered in scars, minor one's decorating his face, while more serious injuries sweep over his neck and flanks. His left ear is badly shredded as well, though he can still hear out of both. Because of an unknown mutation bullshitsilvmadeup, Castail's eyes are a deep red, similar to an albino's eyes, though he doesn't have albino genes himself.

Personality
:bulletgreen [ Responsible / Dedicated / Calm ]
Responsible
Castail has, for the better part of his life, been an authority figure. Responsibility is his entire life, and he knows well how to handle it. If his 2 successfully graduated apprentices and well received leader ship after his deputy-ship has anything to say about it. He is not one to jump into a situation with out carefully analyzing the possible outcomes of certain actions he may take. From his experiences, Castail has learned that violence and blood shed is never a very good route to take, and makes a point of avoiding any sort of dangerous situations his tribe could avoid. Some my see this as cowardice or softness, but he himself sees it as concern for his tribe's well being. But, it's not too far of a stretch to say that this particular trait wasn't part of his personality in the beginning....
Dedicated
Castail has a hard time attaching himself to certain things. So when he does find something that he'll spend his time with, you can bet that he'll never give up on it in his life. Whether that be his tribe, his mate, his children, or anything else he latches onto. No matter what might happen, he'll always find something good to appreciate about something. A bit of a foolish thing to call a positive trait, yes. Due to Castail's experiences, thought, it's hardly surprising that when he loves something, he loves it as fiercely as he can. Even enough to deface himself for it's own betterment. Very true and pure of heart, wouldn't' you say?
Calm
Cas isn't really one to get into a big fuss over menial things. It takes too much work. Instead, he does his best to keep a straight face and a clear mind. Such is proper for a cat of his standing, no? Anyway, calmness comes to Castail naturally. His apathetic nature in his youth and otherwise uneventful existence there-after created a -not bland, but jaded tom. Sure, he has emotions, but he isn't quick to express them and embarrass himself. He'd rather sit by and watch a situation unfold with out his interference than potentially further a situations severity. However, this isn't to say that Castail doesn't have the ability to not be calm....
[ Awkward / Secretive / Guilty ]
Awkward
Cas has never been very good with words. Or making friends. He's far too comfortable with the quite to really have much interest in idle conversation. More often than not he doesn't have anything interesting to talk about. He doesn't get annoyed over anything, so he can't complain. He never really expresses his emotions because he'd just been treated as a kit that being quiet and aloof was perfectly okay. But it isn't very okay when it comes down to it. As a leader, Castail has a hard time connecting with his tribe mates, since he's so God awful at conversation. He can't socialize with the other tribes well because he hates being curious about them and seeming to be prying. It's a wonder he has a mate and children that love and tolerate them the way they do, or even that his tribe even follows him to be perfectly honest.
Secretive
Castail isn't a very open cat, at all. He tends to keep his problems bottled up, and never expresses his true panic with something. And even one he does, it's absolutely expected that he'll feel guilty and embarrassed for it afterward. He hates to push concerns on others, and hates to let others know of problems he faces. Selfless as this may be, it's never optimal for the health and well being of those around him or himself to constantly keep things in and never reveal his true feelings. Maybe if he weren't so concerned with making mistakes and seeming callous, he'd be able to open up. Until this realization, Castail will only drift farther and farther away from his own peace of mind.
Guilty
Castail was given an apprentice around the same time he became deputy, after said apprentice's former mentor died. Quite a lot of responsibility to place on a cat, especially of only 2 1/2 season cycles, and in the midst of a war. But they got along quite well. And then the apprentice died, and the violent torrents of Castail's constant guilt began. He's never been able to get over his first major failure, and always under-estimates his own abilities due to that failure. He always feels that he's disappointing to his peers and family, and a lot of his actions reflect that guilt. His leadership revolves around doing whatever he can to not cause the death of some one he knows, at which point may bring on the grief and rage of those that loved them. He has yet to learn that it is okay to make mistakes, and that his guilt is running him into the ground.
History
Kit hood
Castail was born in the old territories in Air Tribe, to a couple of warriors who'd already been made parents two season cycles before hand. He was a part of a litter of five, consisting of 3 girls and two boys. His name then was Ocean. Unfortunately, the litter was born in the middle of winter, during a particularly violent blizzard season. With in the first few days of life, one of the females, Bliss, died of the cold, and two others, Ocean himself and his sister Bloom, fell sick. The healers and their parents did all they could to help both kittens survive, but it was to no avail. Bloom died 4 days later, and Ocean was able to find the strength to recover. The stress of losing two kits so soon, however, was taxing upon his mother, and she quickly grew despondent and aloof. Though they still nursed, she all but abandoned them, taking refuge in the healers den. Luckily for the kittens, another pregnant queen had recently entered the nursery, and the kits were kept well fed for a time
Because of his mates condition, Terrick had to take on the role of mother and father to his kits. Though they had the generous queen as a food source, she couldn't mother both her own litter and an older one at the same time. He was granted a prolonged excuse from most warrior duties to look after his kits at this time, and their personalities quickly blossomed. The last female, Berry, was the leader / bully figure, and constantly pushed her dominance over her brothers. River, one of the boys, was a kind, gentle soul, who folded easily under his sister's reign. Ocean, however, was different. He was....quiet. Aloof. He didn't socialize to well since the end of his sickness, and usually stayed far away from his siblings. Not wanting his son to be totally isolated, he ordered for him to regularly visit his mother.
Though he held no interest in the idea for a while, Ocean quickly got use to visiting the deep grieving she cat. The attention from her son also seemed to have a positive effect on Jalia, and her depression gradually began to lighten. When the kits were 4 moons old, she was able to move back into the nursery. For the last 2 moons, the family lived in relative harmony. The kind she cat who'd lent her milk out to the older litter had finally given birth, giving Ocean and his siblings 2 new playmates. At least, that is until Berry showed them her true colors and stomped all over them.
Six moons came and went for the kits, and it was time to receive their tattoos at the clearing of light. Berry was giving an earth tattoo, and was named Pandora, River an Air tattoo and named Kazuki, and finally Ocean was given a fire tribe tattoo. His name would be Castail. With some indignant words towards the turn out, the young tom went with his new tribe mates none the less.
Apprenticeship / Adolescence
Castail turned out to be quite the handful, despite his quiet demeanor. His apathetic nature was absolute hell for his mentor, a meek she cat by the name of Yvonne. Every order she gave him was either argued or ignored completely. Castail really had absolutely no ambition to become a guard for his tribe. When he was 8 moons old, Yvonne sought help from a senior guard by the name of Darci. She was a veteran when it came to training unruly apprentices, and was quite outraged when she heard of the younger she cat's charge. At first, she herself tried nagging Castail into training. This didn't work at all, as the young tom was an expert in 'selective hearing'. Darci, being easily frustrated, quickly took matters into her own hands. She requested Castail be transferred into her care by the leader, who accepted easily. Castail couldn't of cursed himself more. Darci was violent, irritable, and drew her claws just as easily as she flicked her tail. She frequently used her powers to motivate her new apprentice, and unsurprisingly it worked. Castail's apathy was gone with in the first week of training, and for the rest of his apprenticeship and adolescence, he was able to catch up and succeed with his peers.
At 1 1/2, Castail was promoted a full fledged guard, and was finally given Darci's approval
Adulthood / Deputyship
(I wasn't in the group during the Fire / Shadow war before the Second Tribe war so I'll leave that part out and just start at when he was 2 season cycles lD )
Castail lead a relatively normal life from then on. Despite the war, he had little to no stresses in life and was quite happy. That is, until the current deputy stepped down after his mate gave birth, and he was picked as the next Yellow fire. Oh, and did I mention he was given the Leader's son as an apprentice right after? Life had gone from good to bad in a matter of weeks for the young tom, though it wasn't all bad. The war was still in it's beginning stages, so rivalries weren't as blood driven as they were at the end part. He met a few tribers from the enemy tribes, and though they didn't get along, he had a healthy respect for them. As a deputy, he wasn't bad, at least. His apprentice at least liked him, and he was well received by his tribe mates. Then the war intensified.
The first major battle occurred, and Luca met an early end at the paws of the Alliance. Castail was shattered at the loss. His first ever real, conscious failure. Though it took some time, the blue gray tabby recovered from the loss, just in time to turn it into fury for the second battle. He came out alive, though deeply wounded, and the tribes lived in relative peace there after.
A few moons later, Tzurai brought her second litter into the world, and Castail was assigned their baby sitter. Shortly after this, exiles joined the tribes, doubling the population. However, do the the desecration of holy land, the spirits destroyed the old territories, and the tries were forced to migrate north, where the exiles had lived for some generations. There, Castail met a friend, and later the love of his life, Vendetta. They were soon mated, and brought 4 healthy kits into the world.
Their happiness was short lived, as their new land was soon overrun with the former head honchos of the land, an expansive band of caimans. Due to their base of operations being in earth tribe, Castail was deeply unsettled by the possibility of his family in danger. The tribes made their first move, losing 2 leaders forever, and taking the lives of 2 others. Around this time, the yellow fire's children were old enough to earn their tattoos, and while three of his offspring joined him in fire tribe, his personal favorite, Bloom, now named Meilani, was sent to Air tribe. The stress was heavy on the current Fire tribe leader, and after ending her last moments with her children, Tzurai ended her life in the lava of the volcano, leaving Castail as the silver. Kintsu was chosen as his deputy. Against the odds, the tribes came out on top, and defeated the caimans.....

[Yellow-fire / Castail / Cat's Eye]
He felt that terribly crumbling in his chest start, just as Sandy scooted away from him. 'She hates me, she totally hates me. Who can blame her I just tried to DROWN her.' was all Castail could think as he stared at her, his pupils large and apologetic. He didn't move from where he was sitting, but his tattoo was still activated. "I'm....I'm so sorry Sandy.....I...I should of known. I should of gotten out of the water. You almost...." his voice cracked then, the guilt and self loathing evident in his voice and expression. Blood dribble from his nose to his mouth, the poor area swelling bigger and bigger the more he spoke. He could just barely get by with out sounding like his nose was stuffed. It was, but it didn't matter. He ignore the ache, and merely looked up at his half drowned friend, eyes watery. His sad frowned deepened as she thanked him. Thanked him for what? For nearly killing her? For making her go through probably the most horrifying experience any cat could go through? Even as she commented on his nose, Castail frowned, but his muzzle wrinkled, and he looked away."Don't be sorry. My dumb ass deserves it." he chopped out with a low hiss, not having to courage to look back into her admiring silvery gaze. She thanked him for saving her in that cute quivering voice of hers, asked if she could do something to help with his nose, even joked about how inept at swimming she was for being an earth triber. After a few seconds of silence, the blue gray tabby looked up again, staring into the earth triber's eyes with darkened irises, his cheek fur wetted with tears of anger and horror. He rose from his spot on the shore, still staring at the pale striped she cat with utter guilt and sorrow, and made several slow steps towards. Soon, the yellow fire was close enough to brush his nose with hers, and he merely stood there, still staring at her. "Sandy....." was the only thing he whispered before he moved his head past hers, burying his muzzle into the fur of her neck. "Don't worry about me. I'm fine, just as long as you're okay and breathing......Spirits I'm sorry. I almost killed y-you." His voice had thickened, and tears started to stream from his now burgundy eyes, blood shot from the sting of the water. 'Spirits why do I always put those I care for in danger? Why must I be such a bad luck charm?' His questions would of course go unanswered, but the tom was content in inhaling the others sent, blanded by the water but still alive and still breathing.
