This has a unique quality to it, especially considering it's your first oil painting. The colors are nice- I really like the intense blue near the top.
I'll request more pieces in the future for my LandscapePainting group.

Be free with the paint. Do not feel compelled to make lines... Splotch away. Dabs do more than lines.
Watch some Bob Ross. He's magic with landscape, and his work can translate into other things as well.
Well on your way sir. Well on your way.

yeah... im not really the painting type. im in love with the rennaisance, and i really want to aim for that crisp, clear and magnificent style that da vinci, raphael and others (like turner, renoir and in more modern times artists like salvador dali and boris vallejo) used to achieve with oils...
but i have a slight handicap; i did a watercolour once. it was on a tuesday. i as about thirteen years old and i said never again.
then fast forward to last year and i was trying to figure out how to get more rennaissance-related style into my works-
common sense led to me getting my first set of oil paints, and trying my very first painting. im really rather proud of how its turning out but i am working on another at the same time now - so progress has slowed somewhat.

you have the desire.
You have the drive.
you have the support.
Listen, Look, Watch, Learn.
Do Bob Ross first. Learn to do the splotching loose landscape style first. It will teach you the feel of the paint and how it works with itself in varying degree's of thickness...
once you have mastered Ross, you can move on to the more detailed and crisp works... you will have learned how better to feel the oil paints on the brush and how they feel when you are puting them on the canvas. Boris always starts with models that he draws separately, then pieces the pencil drawings together, then transfers the works onto canvas, then he paints.
I adore Boris. I recommend that you go to Amazon.com and find yourself a Boris art book. Most of them include some background on how he does the work. It helped me grow as an artist, it will help you as well.

i will try . . . i suffer with terribly shaky hands, and so photos are even harder to manage than drawing straight lines :-S

The great thing about this is that it posesses the same quality as your drawings. I love the textures. And I also think the water has beautiful texture which gives it a lot of movement. The whole piece is very dynamic.

Nice work, I understand the photograph is not helping you, but it still looks very nice.
Try using references for the water

thanks for the kind words and advice!
i prefer to let eveyrthing flow from the imagination, feeling as though one day the art will take me to the place i need to be...but you have a good point; i can google search images of water now too...

of course, you must never stop letting imagination flow and get too attached to references, there must be a balance between both, I think that's the hardest part of painting...

thanks for understanding and not just thinking im trying to be high and mighty... something certain people tend to randomly think of me for whatever reason.
