The spawn of a small doodle I did months ago at work. They're smokin' the wormpipes.Acrylics with some ink.

Thanks! Everything's been good. I'm on hiatus from work, which really means I've been let go but I have a rehire date (no work for me at the studio right now). I'll be away for 2 weeks on vacation starting Friday. Good luck on your tests! TTYL.

Has that kiddish, bubbly feel to it; silly-amusing with the swimmy faces of the fishies and their wormy pipes. Wonderful, crisp clear details done with the acrylics as well.

How did you get the acrylics to blend so smoothly and nicely in the background?

LOL, they DO look like total stoners. Smooth background? Well it helps that it was painted on cardboard, so I already had a base color. I applied the acrylics in washes there, with my paint really watered down, layering the colors on little by little.

It's really the expression of the one fish that has its mouth open.
I'm going to have to try watering down my acrylics-- otherwise I end up gobbing them all over. Thanks for the tip!

Yea, it helps if you want a softer watercolory look. I know you can also buy mediums or glazes to mix with your paints to thin them down. The fish in this are actually pretty gobby. I do that often myself, but I rather like the textured look.

*grinchuckle!* I like seeing odd whimsy critters on deviantArt. It looks like the walls of their tank could use a couple of good snails to clean 'em, and whoa, what a strange tank toy/seaweed. Interesting color combinations.
