 4/26 EDIT: New design!

The old version of this was awkward, clunky, and overly complex, so it ended up being heavily streamlined. I wanted to make the bipedal saurian body shape more clear, while also indicating that because it's moving underground, it's going the same troglodyte route as blind cave fish and amphibians, though with tuataras being reptiles I don't know how well that'd apply. Still, the closed eyes and the glowing spot invoking an eye invoke this idea well enough. I also got rid of the rest of the spots everywhere else on the body, partly for simplification and partly to draw viewers' attention towards the head, the "third eye" being is the focal point of this design. I'm much happier with how this turned out all in all - since my longship dragon line got remade for this challenge, it was only fair that I did this one, too!

**********

I'm about to run off to a celebratory birthday dinner party, so I don't have much time to type, but for now here is the second form of my redone (cave) dragon line! As previously noted, the original pitch was based on tuataras, and this stage is where these reptiles shine through in terms of design. Not much to say about this stage except that the added Psychic typing is for two reasons: 1) Tuataras were traditionally seen as bad luck or otherwise an omen in Maori culture, and I figured we could use more "eerie" Psychic-types running around; and 2) the third eye is a symbol of mysticism that I tried portraying in the original version. Otherwise, it's a bigger, ganglier, meaner Proteeny - though that'll no doubt change when he evolves once again!

The 58 HP is midway between Vibrava's 50 and Fraxure's 66, the 94 Attack is the average of Vibrava's 70 and Fraxure's 117, and the 60 Defense is the medium of Vibrava's 50 and Fraxure's 70. Special Attack and Defense are both 50, from Vibrava, and the Speed is 68, just a point higher than Fraxure's 67. The original stat total, 356, was 16 points higher than than Vibrava's 340 and 54 points lower than Fraxure's 410, but I decided to balance that out by adding 20 more points to Attack, making the stat total 376 and putting it closer to the midpoint between these two canon totals.

I'll expand more on the competitive analysis when I post the final form either tonight or tomorrow!

Nah, but one of the new inspirations for this line could be a neat inspiration for an alien species! While Intertara is based on tuataras, he also takes cues from a species of cave salamander called an olm, which is so adapted to the cavern pools it lives in that its eyes have become useless and vestigial. It relies on vibration and electricity detection to sense its environment and track down prey.

The Medieval Slovenian naturalist who first discovered and described them reported that the locals thought of them as dragon larvae!

I see that you've skipped his Mid form.

Does he even have a Mid form?

He's not technically based on Spike anymore, though the influence is still there I figured the design could do better in terms of standing out on its own, though.
