You got to go to Japan? Lucky you Sketch : )
Gotta say the artwork itself hits pretty close to home. Probably similar gesture of how you felt while you were there, however this does a fantastic job in portraying the feeling of alienation in a world that's similar yet different to your own.
The usage of colour I feel best reflects that.
The world around Hitori is gray, sketchy and indistinct with a vague perception of what lies beneath the sneering remarks and mocking demeanor of those around her. Even if she can't understand what they're saying she can still sense that vaunted arrogance that burns itself into the back of her mind like a lingering whisper whose trephination slowly begins to embed itself deeper within the subconscious before it latches itself into a dark pit from which to pull her under.
Hitori remains coloured simply because she is someone who she can completely understand, she knows exactly what she is feeling, who she is, what she looks like.
But everybody else?
Vague shapes, distinguishable, but ultimately hazy as the mockery turns to a cacophony of faces blurring together as a culmination of the collective anxiety that dwells within.
Beautiful artwork Sketch, perfect depiction of social alienation and the lingering paranoia that comes from such things.
Hope you had a good time in Japan by the by, sounds like you had a blast man XD

Ah my gosh! Thank you so much! x)
Hehe, I remember being happy with how the hair turned out x)
I think this is when I started getting more into doing small scale line art and with pens rather than sharpies haha
I also remember listening to early Daoko tracks while drawing this hehe
It was an incredible, dare I say, life changing trip! I miss Japan more than I'm able to properly express with words! I can't wait till I can one day return an re-experience it again! (>o<)
