Description The strange echoes of time become frozen in place as grief overpowers all that we have ever come to know and love. The rope hangs from the gallows, tightening its death grip around the woman's neck; her body dangling gracefully even in her final moments. Death becomes the cloud that surrounds her body, replacing her aura of child-like innocence. Her lover watches across the temple, one figure alone in a crowd, desperate to help and powerless to move. The animal begins to rise, from its dormant lair, fuelled by sorrow and an unquenchable rage, as the woman draws her last breath and goes limp. The animal is known to us all, usually buried within the deepest pit of our souls. The lover is overtaken and becomes the nightmare. A heart dangles, ripped and torn from his hands. His world disappeared as her soul leaves the empty hollow husk of who she used to be.

The sun disappears, sacrificing itself to the night. The dark infiltrated the lover's soul, claiming it and in doing so making the lover cold and dead. The animal thrives, feeding on the emptiness that is left. The lover welcomed the rage inside his body as though it was a sweet caress. He no longer cared about what he had become or what he left standing in his wake. He let his destruction rage, bringing the temple and those who had sacrificed the woman, to appease their own sadistic yearnings, to their knees. He would allow no mercy for them, for they had shown her none.

His grief and guilt wallowed fresh through his body, shining in his eyes. The lover knew he had loved her above all others and knew he had failed to protect her. He realised now all too late, that while they may have taken her life on the gallows, the woman had taken his heart, his reason for existence but more than that, she had taken his soul.

Woodblock print on Stonehenge, handcoloured with watercolours.

Edit= Thought I might give a little perspective. The original print is approx 16" by 12", and carving took over 20 hours.

Hehe She was very fun to pick on. We used to have contests to see who could offend her the most. Very immature, but we had fun. And she knew what we were up to, and tried her hardest creep us out with god talk and goody goody attitude. *shudder* I hate the lovey religious types.
