Description An enemy stronghold is softened up by ME 626 Donner Vogel (Thunderbird) before a waiting armoured assault unit comprising of Jaguar MK2 Luftpanzers, goes into action. The enemy is not without teeth as one of the Tbird pilots has found out.

Winter OffensiveThe biting cold of the Finnish winter reached through the thick great coat that Hauptman Hans Steiner wore as he stood in the hatch of his Jagdjaguar luftpanzer. The heavy tank hummed idly as it hovered on the snow covered road, besides it an identical tank hummed on its own idling engine. Steiner looked down the road, bracketed on either side by thickly snow laden trees. He hated this damned country, it reminded him of Russia in winter.
“How long are we waiting Hauptman?” his gunner asked from inside the Jagdjaguar's casmate.
“As long as we need to.” Steiner replied, his breath frosting in front of his face. “Our orders are to hold until we get the signal.”
Inside the casemate he heard his gunner shiver and smiled.
“Don't tell me you're cold in there.”
“Freezing Hauptman.”
Steiner chuckled. “Maybe you should come up here with me, it's quite toasty.”
“I will pass.” the gunner replied with a laugh as the

There are some fabulous photographs here.
Everything else in Photoshop

I have 3 versions of a new aircraft that just will not come together so I thought I would dump the project and do a tank as the last one was a bit ungainly.

Not really got a back story here as my knowledge of armoured fighting vehicles is not on par with that of vintage aviation – this could be a good thing

This works, those planes probably a little too low and too 'in synch' with each other but the scene works. Just being critical.

Those two guys are the well known Luftwaffe two man display team- they always fly in sync and very low.
I should have mentioned that perhaps

Damn, I remember watching that show when I lived in England (94, so reruns). Even had the Island as a playset. Hand Tunderbird 1-3 and the Lady Penelope car.
All lost, broken or thrown away now though.

And to think back in the day, when the weather was so bad the tank crews used to have a fire under their tanks and anything else for that matter, to warm up the diesel that  had frozen over night.

Stunning image.

Very nice work with great details!  But I imagine that those hover tanks would kick up a snow storm when they moved.

Small-Brown-Dog In reply to Gnoll-El [2017-08-26 18:20:06 +0000 UTC]

I thought about this when I did "killer in the woods" my other tank.
There is no down thrust just a reaction force to compensate for weight so more of a crushing effect if the reaction is equal to the weight it is compensating for.  Although this force and foward movement would stir up the snow I guess.... I don't know, I'm just making this stuff up as I go

Since you mentioned studying up on Tiger Ace Michael Whittman, I would also recommend the autobiography of Otto Carius, "Tiger in the Mud", in case you haven't yet. He's a lot more 'fun' than Heinz Guderian. Saw heaps of action on the Eastern Front. Lived to tell the tale too.

This is really neat.

I love how you've expanded the technology in such a fashion that still makes sense within the context.

It also gives some fun ideas.

Would you mind if I wrote a scene taking inspiration from this?

I'd of course link back to the original and give full credit for the inspiration.
