A workhorse, insufficiently appreciated. It did a job lacking in glamour but it was there, it was what we had and it did the job sufficiently well.

Dunno about not being appreciated, from China to the Western desert this machine and variants proved itself.

Well, as far as WWII aircraft are praised, the order might be Spitfire, Hurricane, Me109, focke wulf 190, ME 262, Tempest or something similar and you'd have to go far down the list to find it,

Although it saddens me to say so, you may have to put the P51 at the front of that list ... that range and its fighting capability.
