Trophy Thomas is the perfect embodiment of the overly competitive sports player (or gamer, if you will) who believes they are unbeatable no matter what, yet will develop excuses when they do fail. I chuckled when he threw a aggressive fit on the spot once I soundly defeated him on Nutty Acres; most of the classic style humour appears to have been retained despite all the years gone by. 
Focusing on the artwork itself now.
An overly simplistic style through minimalist and monotonic colouring is perfectly suited for the comical and cartoony world of Banjo-Kazooie, whilst also conveying your focus on character perception being more important than attention to detail. Given your recent practice with traditional cartoon works, it's not too surprising that you've pulled it off well without any major sacrifice to quality. Somehow I think his fur looks like Swiss Cheese, but that only adds to the humour. 
With that all said and done, it does cause some issues. The lack of any depth perception in some vital anatomy areas damages the consistency of the image and makes certain parts appear perfectly flat. You've addressed this well with the arms and shoulders due to the use of additional lineart, yet the tail, feet and neck all suffer due to any definition. However, as I mentioned earlier that your focus here is clearly on thew character itself, the overall package isn't hurt that much.
Hope you enjoy playing through the rest of Nuts & Bolts; I recently bought it myself and I'm slowly progressing through the worlds. Honestly though, I'd rather sit in Mumbo's Motors and play around with vehicle combinations for hours on end rather than collect Jiggies.

haha, that's one of my favorite moments in Nuts and Bolts. he's like, "best two out of three!" he gets funnier later on.
