Sorry I'm only getting back to you now. I'm on vacation. Many thanks for your great comment. Glad you liked the photo. They do this every year where I live (at least I think so). It's something special for sure.

(I'll answer in English, because it gives me a wider range of expression.)

I understand your appreciation of cities at night. It is exactly my sentiment. When I walk through Viennese streets under a night sky, I feel like I'm in a different city altogether. There is a special atmosphere. Yes, even the air smells different. It reminds me a bit of your mirror world concept: two sides of the same. Needless to say, I enjoy the night side greatly.

Thank you for your comment.

Oh, thanks.

Viennese must be very beautiful. My cousin was there last holidays...showed me some photo and told me about place.
Walking through some places make us feel diferent or in another place. I hope that feeling doesn't be only when we walk through somewhere.

You're welcome. It's a pleasure.

Yes, Vienna is a beautiful city, and although I've been living here all my life, I still discover new facets every time I delve into its heart.

But there are so many beautiful places in this world. I've been to Sintra twice. It's one of the most magical places. I could feel it. I just don't know if I'll manage to go there this February, when I'll come to Lisboa. But I definitely will go and see Sintra again.

My god that's so beautiful! I can only imagine how it's like to walk through streets like those. Very romantic and even medieval if it weren't for the samsung spot in the back I love the ball idea, the street movement shows it really well.

I still have to comment your previous work, I loved it but hadn't time for it yet.

Thank you, dear, I always appreciate your words.

While I'm not a fan of the holiday hype that is going on each year with all the noise and kitsch, I do enjoy what is happening in the Inner City of Vienna, since there is an artistic touch to it. Lots of different installations and eyecatchers. There's definitely a special atmosphere. I'm glad I was able to capture it on picture and save a little bit of it for the viewer.

We don't have such things around here! It does give a certain romantic feeling... It makes me want to go there and dance a valse.

The whole of the Inner City is lit up, but I find these chandeliers special. It fits Vienna and the waltz, I guess.

Absolutely lovely work yet again Chris. I like the blurry people in your foreground (did you "remove" them digitally?), seeing them in current clothing is nice because it really brings the piece out of that fantasy realm and into reality. And are those chandeliers up year-round? or are they a seasonal feature for the holidays?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sombersoul In reply to hamimo [2006-12-18 16:30:40 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! And you are right: these chandeliers are a seasonal feature. The whole of the Inner City is completey lit up by light installations such as these. It creates an own special atmosphere. I did not digitally alter the image at all, by the way. It's simply a long-time exposure, so the passers-by became blurred. And this was actually the desired effect, since it looks like they're dancing under the open sky.

My! that makes me realize, about your previous submission, how difficult it must have been to take so clear and crisp a shot ! for both of them indeed

sombersoul In reply to asclaire [2006-12-17 12:29:57 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I had a tripod with me, of course. And it was raining, too. But this mustn't put a photographer off. The passers-by were quite curious as to what I was doing with a camera in the middle of crowd and in the rain.

I had to take all the shots by using long exposure times. So, everything that was moving (like the people) came out blurred while the chandeliers and buildings came out crisp. I think it's a nice effect and the people seem to be dancing, too.

The Inner City in Vienna is always lit up like this in the days before X-mas. A feast for the eyes...
