I wanted to tell you - I have very deeply enjoyed this comic.
It's the first thing I've read in a while that really resonated with me. Thank you for that - for putting all the effort in to bring it to completion.
It seems oddly fitting that the last page was submitted on my birthday, this was a gift.

i really like the line "no good can come from attachment to mortals."
both second and deadwood met their ends via mortals; had second never taken pity upon rig, she would still be in the mountains, feasting on unfortunate deer children. deadwood likely wouldn't be in any better shape than he is as we now see him, but making rig's acquaintance allowed him to "...have caught but a passing glimpse of the promise of a future, and have no access to it."Β

Didn't realize it was eisen feeding her until reading the comments.Β At first I almost thought she was killing them to keep them away from deadwood,Β Β which would be brutal.Β Wonder what happens if she stops eating meat.Β Would be cute if she became a mini deer or a fawn like tiny deadwood here.Β Or maybe she could finally die?Β
I love the "pose" deadwood is in.Β Glad to see him finally getting put in his place.Β Deadwood always gave off the vibe of an abusive boyfriend to me.Β Hope they have one last conversation where she eats him after. I do find it a little odd that she took revenge on deadwood only, and not the wolves that killed fen as well. If I became a carnivore, that would have been my first meal. I didn't think it was him bringing her food either. I thought the blood on his antlers could be from a recent clash with another buck (is that the reason for his scars?).
What could be his motives to help her? Maybe as a 'thank you' for preventing other deer from entering the forest and fall to Deadwood? Or maybe because he just feels sorry for her fate?

....Oh man now I want to draw that. Demons just become smaller as they weaken until they turn into babies. I love it.
I don't know if preventing deadwood from eating is necessarily revenge, or if she's trying to prevent deadwood from potentially messing with animals like before. I guess that part is up to interpretation. The problem wasn't that deadwood needed to eat, or that predators needed to eat. But how a demon uses their powers, is what makes them a demon.

I like the thought of Rig protecting other animals from meeting deadwood, getting impaled or turned into demons.

She does have the colors of Second! It's not as obvious because of the lighting overlays but I took her colors from Second's palette.

Well done, you're really talented... This comic was really awesome, and all... The plot twists and the characters... I cried, I smiled, while reading this. But I can just no accept this is the end, because in some ways, Deadwood, Fen, Pace, RigΒ and all of them are now a part of the life of the ones who read it since the beginning.
You made us love them, hate them, and see them evolving (Well for Rig, that's the word!) and.. Well, I don't know how to say. Thanks, I suppose? =')

I guess my thought processes were "Plants feed on decaying matter including bodies, and Crows are scavengers so meat." So I didn't immediatrly think that a deer demon would need to eat meat.

rig wins not through violence but perseverance... a bittersweet ending, but fitting. she has always been persistent, if nothing else.

Woah, didn't know Deadwood would take that much of a hit. It's funny, we were all thinking she was going to go and fight Deadwood after going full demon; but instead Rig held her fury and played the waiting game, drawing out Deadwood's demise. If you ask me that feels better than her just ending them in a fight, it makes them pay more for their manipulation in a sense. It also ends the root of a problem, now no one else can ever make contracts with Deadwood and Deadwood can not spread their manipulation; ensuring the past events don't repeat themselves.
