Description Got a carrot?

A semi wild donkey (Equus asinus) on St.Martin, FWI.
I don't know why donkeys are always associated with stupidity, they are way too cool for that.

Donkeys are "stupid" because they are way too smart for their own good. ask one to do something it doesnt want to do and it will find fifty ways of making sure that it doesn't have to do it that you would never think of. I've worked with a few (I train horses) and most of them are the best con-artist i've ever worked with.

wonderful image, you got the personality here spot on. and his nose looks so adorably velvety! wonderful capture!

I've been thinking about making the switch to slide film -- worth it?

Sonik-Sheep In reply to homedoggieo [2007-02-26 23:23:11 +0000 UTC]

Depends on what you are switching from. If it's from negative film then definitely yes! It's just that it's getting harder and harder to get good labs to develop slide film. Also you need to get a slide projector. Most slide film stuff you can get cheap now at garage sales and stuff. If you're using digital now, then no. Too much trouble.

Nice Horse pic

Yep... I'm shooting color negative

It's just soooooo much cheaper! Both the stock and the processing.

Nothing beats 100 ISO slide film in quality... Well, I think so anyway. If you want some nice strong colors go for fuji Velvia I think. It's a bit more expensive than sensia which I use. It's just that with 100 ISO you need lotsa light, or a tripod or flash set-up. But I'm sure you know all that already.

I've shot low-speed print film before... and when I shoot black and white, I make a habit of overexposing and pulling to bring out the detail, so I normally pull back to about ISO 50.

Do you think it would be cheaper just to get some very low-speed print film (like... 50, 25) and get it processed at a 1-hour place than to shoot ISO 100 slide film

Hmm. I'd go for slide film, hands down. It is also so much more fun. You can frame them, cut it yourself, and watch it on a projector (which is super sharp compared to a beamer!!) But for me, a good slide scanner, or access to one is crucial. I can't say much about negative film at such low speed, never tried it. In fact never seen anyone use it around me either! Good luck!

love the title i just imagined the donkey really saying it...and I saw The Shrek movie! great detail, how did you achieve that softness in the photo!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sonik-Sheep In reply to olkie [2007-01-29 01:29:31 +0000 UTC]

The softness in the background is due to the short depth of focus. It's achieved by using a low f value (large apperature). thanks for the comment

Yeh, it's a classic. But classics are good if they are done well imo.
I like your donkey image too, it's a whole different take on the same subject. Especially your background colors and the donkeys pose are strikingly different.
