(( Back reference of scars. The Battle of Trenton and the Battle of Princeton share one scar which extends out to the front since the two were related engagements during the American Revolution. Both of these battles were major turning points in the Revolution and were important in boosting the morale of the Americans, as well as Washington's credibility.

The T.A. Gillespie Company Shell Loading Plant explosion occured at a WWI ammuniction plant located in Sayreville, Middlesex County. The accidental explosion triggered both a fire and a following series of other explosions which lasted for three days. The facility along with more than 300 buildings were destroyed, forcing reconstruction in both Sayreville and neighboring South Amboy. According to a 1919 government report this explosion had destroyed enough ammunition to supply the western front for six months. Over 100 people died in the incident, and much more were injured in the surrounding area. Individuals who were evacuated or homeless were highly susceptible to the influenza pandemic which occured the following winter, causing the death toll to further rise.
