A lovely picture you have played this character very well, great work on the hair and costume too. I was wondering how the environment was produced is it computer generated or perhaps a specially constructed set, its very difficult to tell sometimes.

I love Mytho really much and I think I can understand his character. Here he is already awaken prince with a kind heart, who can put all his feelings and tenderness into dance. Cosplay Mytho is always a pleasure for me ^^

That is wonderful SoranoSuzu. I am just starting to understand this character and want to learn more. I do notice that females seem to playing the role, which captured my interest along with the costume. I love the fact that the costume looks male from the waist up and then bottome is off set by the white tights which gives the character a female look. How did it feel playing the part and wearing this costume ? How much of the costume is of your making (each piece) ?

The costume was made fully by me, and that tights actually male dancer's tights I've bought at Grishko ballet-wear shop. Its not semi-transparent female tights. Actually it is dense leggings with "foot" part, it has some seams. That leggings usually worn by male ballet dancers and it looks feminine only on anime character which I cosplay - real ballet dancers always well-built and ballet tights emphasizes that fact.
Playing Mytho's role is hard of course because I'm not ballet dancer at all, in my photos I try to picture him as dreamy, tender boy who love to dance and express his feelings brightly in his moves and poses.

Ah i understand your difficulty in playing the part. I would assume some type of ballet practice or classes would help play the part better or express the character better. I was thinking about trying it out.
BTW that is absolutely wonderful that you have the knowledge to make your own costumes.
Hmm I don't know much about ballet attire so your comments certainly have helped. I would think that non-transparent tights would be the best to wear since the prince's bottom is exposed. I kinda feel sorry for the character since the tunic only comes to the waist and no pants are worn yet the look of the costume with tights seems so right.

I think it's too late for me to try ballet, though I don't think it is really needed - I cosplay really a lot of different characters: dancers, fighters, musicians. It's nearly inpossible to be a good specialist in every of that professions. I am fashion designer myself and I enjoy costume making and I love to act on scene/at photoshoots - I always try to act authentical and read about the specialities of character's profession, and learn character of course, his poses, his personality. For me it is pretty enough for a quality authentical photoshoot and short performace at cosplay event.
I've read about ballet costume's history - it's kinda classic outfit for a male ballet dancer. It is uniform, maybe in modern ballet it is not, but for a classical ballet such as Swan Lake or Nutckracker special tights is usual. So it's no need to feel sorry for male dancers, they know what they'll wear in their profession ^^

First, i like to thank you so much for all this information you are sharing with me. I would like to get involved in cosplay but I don't know all that much about it but I am learning. I took an interest in princess tutu and the pretty outfits but I don't think I could ever play that role or look as pretty and cute as all the ladies I have seen playing the part. I did however take an interest in the prince because the costume did capture my interest and definitey seeing you and your photos, I knew I wanted to play the part (i am learning more now)
The ballet around the part is what is kinda making me shy away yet i do love the costume. Even though male ballet dancers can handle being exposed i am kinda very shy about that, at least at this point. I see you and a lot of other ladies playing the part, so I can assume that it doesn't bother you just wearing a pair of tights - Maybe its because you are in character and performing. I guess I would have to block it all out of my head.

No problem. Cosplay is great hobby and if You'll decide to start I wish You good luck with that!
Actually I think if only legs exposed - it's pretty ok. Though Mytho has classical ballet outfits, his hips looks covered everywhere. And as I said earlier - actual dancer's tights that I've bought for this cosplay is really dense and absolutely non transparent. So it's more feels like wear a pair of skinny pants ^^

It does look like a great hobby and thanks. I do wish to get in contact or find a local group or club that performs and i would like to try being mytho prince.
Well i do agree the leg exposure it pretty and, may i add, that you have gorgeous legs and look actually look like a soft, tender prince, so beautiful. Your pictures are stunning and so very attractive.
I did chat with another cosplayer named Sumikins and she also played the prince. Like you she made her own costume. As we talked she did admit, if she could, she would wear her costume much much more because she likes it so much (she wanted to wear it everyday lol) Like you, she had no issue wearing the tights and having her rear and front exposed didn't bother her at all. I guess it doesn't bother many girls. She did mention the tunic was a little uncomfortable/tight around the stomach and did not like the fact that her males tights sagged some in the crotch. I could find that a little annoying. Having to keep adjusting the tunic and pulling up my tights would be an issue. Did you experience any issues with your costume ?

I am glad You liked my photos, thanks!
My costume is pretty comfortable and I like it a lot. But I rarely wear one costume more than two times - for event and for photoshoot(only if I'll find beautiful location or invent something interesting concept for a new shooting I'll made it). This purplish blue costume I made for one photoshoot only and I don't think I'll wear it again. Previous Mytho costume I wore on event, then on photoshoot with my group and then on solo photoshoot with finished sword. I don't think I'll wear it more either, because I always making new costumes and I like to wear different and new costumes on every event. If there is something unfinished in my costume I always fix everything up before shooting. So... of course, I love the costume I did and I did it pretty fast - for two days maybe, it is much more simple than other costumes I usually make. But I'm not sure if I'll wear it more. I got beautiful photos from talented photographer and soon will upload new, and with Princess Tutu too ^^

Hmmm I understand your feelings now about your costumes. I guess since you are a designer and a creator must must wear many many different creations, that i can understand. It must feel great to be able to wear and model your own creations and I must say that you look stunning. Hey I can't wait to see you in a tutu. You went from a prince to a princess, cool. Did you make the tutu ?
The other cosplayers that I was chatting with seem to love wearing their costumes over and over just for fun. That must be fun doing that but for me I think i might be a little shy wearing the costume out in public. I get enough looks with the dresses i wear.
I think at this point I will have to purchase the entire costume if i decide to be a cosplayer in real life. When I scan the internet the only thing i see are male professional costumes which are way out of my league to wear. Their costumes look like waist length jackets or shirts and just tights and it shows everything ( all different colors). I guess i would have have to purchase one if i want to play the part. Having nothing covering my front and rear is very daring to wear but i guess i would have to do it if i want to really look the part. Any suggestions ?

Oh I mean photos of my Mytho with Princess, I didn't cosplay as her ^^
About costume wearing... Different people try to reach different goals in their hobby. For me it's costume sewing and craft. It is the essence of cosplay for me. For someone it is part about wearing costume - they enjoy it and having fun. Most of my costumes are really hard to wear and took hour and more just to put it on. So simple costumes I make for an athmospheric shooting, like this - we found that great decorations and made an allegory in our cosplay with ballet "Nutckracker" of Chaikovsky.
For You I can suggest to choose costume that You like from anime or artworks and then find a good seamstress to order costume for. Together You'll definately figure out shape of costume that wouldn't bother You and You'll be perfectly comfortable in costume that was sewn specially for You.

I am guessing a lot of people, like yourself, are costume designers and creatures. Can I assume that cosplay is more about the costume creations and a little less on the actual performance and roleplay/acting ?
As far as getting a custom costume created, it might cost me high dollars. After looking on the internet, and seeing the professional prince costumes, i can only assume that purchasing one could be less expensive. From what i am discovering, the costume only consists of a waist length jacket, very pretty a lot of them, and very thick ballerina tights (I can't see through them). Like i mentioned before, I am shy about having tights just to cover my bottom but if it helps to keep the price of a costume low I should maybe purchase it from a costume store. Do you think a tradional ballet costume is not practical for cosplay?
(I hope I am not waisting your time or bothering you. I so appreciate your knowledge and input. Your suggestions I am writing down and are helping)

I am afraid random ballet costume will not be perfect for cosplay... Because cosplay it's not just dress up nearly like the character. The meaning of cosplay is to create an exact copy of a character, his outfit, his hair, eye color, every small detail of his appearance means a lot in cosplay. This is the challenge cosplay gives you.
You can make a Princess Tutu-inspired image, some original ballerina costume maybe.

ellaprincess In reply to SoranoSuzu [2015-02-24 23:42:32 +0000 UTC]
Ah now I certainly understand cosplay. I was under the impression that a "prince costume is just a costume". You are so right about trying to make one's self and exactly copy of the character. Though I did find some costume close to the prince I don't think the color scheme would match. Like the tights were not white and I think using a white pair for the costume I was viewing would not matchup well. Like you have stated "u have to match the character."
I don't think I would look very good as princess tutu. I am very tall and not that graceful. Plus a petite beauty is better for that roll in my opinion.
The prince I think I could handle better and act out the character better. I have been trying to find something to match your costume but the tunic/tights don't look right. DO you think a professional ballet jacket with the colors matching close to your costume would work ?

If it will work for You - why not? If it'll give You satisfaction and some fun, You are free to do as You wish. But if You will post photos in the internet I am afraid there would be people who will notice mismatch in character's outfit and Your costume and ask You why You decided to do so. Or say something offensive - sadly but I heard a lot offensive things myself for "too long bangs" of "being too fat for character" or "wrong choice of technology for making details". Just for that. You must be ready for it.
On the other hand, I can't completely understand why You want to cosplay if You don't want exact copy of character's costume. Last thing I have to suggest to You is to find some shops with cosplay costumes, there are plenty of it online or on taobao. There should be Princess Tutu and Mytho costumes. And I am sure cosplay costume would cost You less then real ballet costume. Sadly I can't name some shops because I've never bought any costumes. But I am sure there are many, because I've seen pictures of cosplay costumes for sale. Try it!

ah I will take in consideration the criticism you have mentioned and you are so right. I get enough "looks" on what I wear everyday so I know what you are talking about.
Hey I can't believe anyone would have anything negative about your costume. You are gorgeous even as a prince !
Hmm, yes I do understand matching the characters outfit the best possible way. The only reason I was leaning to a traditional male ballet prince costume is because I did see others in this website wearing them. They were pretty as well. It is just not being covered up on the bottom that worries me.

If outfit that You've choose looks good enough for You then it's up only to You - buy it or not. You asked me - I answered that for myself I'd prefer to save some money and order an outfit, if I would't be able to make it myself. If I haven't enough money - I'd buy a costume in cosplay costumes shop. Costume that just "look alike" character's outfit from anime can't be completely a cosplay, it would make some original or inspired image, but I can say it's not bad at all. You just better be sure how to name it right ^^

I don't think it's a good choice. Mytho got only one black costume - when he was posessed by raven. His other costumes always blue or purple. And all of his costumes hides his hips. And as I said earlier, all of his outfits got unique design, there will be really hard to find something suitable.

Ah ok. I was thinking of the possesion when I looked at the black costume so I guess that one isn't very good. I posted up another costume which I think will work with a cap. It's very pretty and I think the color will work out great. Maybe to much tights exposed though.
Take a look when you get time and see what you think.
By the way, again thank you so so much for your help.

Second outfit looks better, but still it lack some details in design that prince Mytho got. If You like this outfit You surely can try that clothes for cosplay, but I recommend You not to spend Your money on something look-alike, and better make a great cosplay. But maybe if You'll like the feeling of cosplay in looking-alike clothes in the future You will make more Mytho costumes, who knows? Anyway I said my opinion, it's only Your choice, which way to choose.

I think this outfit is pretty close to mytho. I just think I need the silver/white wig, a cape, a crown, and a sword. The costume i posted is actualy priced very good, $150 USD including the tights and those cute slippers. I think if i combine all the accessories I think this could be a get mytho costume.
The only thing that concerns me, and I know you mentioned it before, is how short the jacket is and not covering my bottom. The tights are thick but they are just tights but I am hoping a cap will hide my legs some in the rear. Any suggestions ?

My last and only suggestion - order or buy anime Mytho costume. I know it's hard to start to cosplay, and I've faced all this difficulties myself when I started to, but the cosplay is about something more than just buy some looking-alike clothes. Really I think You can buy an anime Mytho costume cheaper. But this is only my opinion, I hope You understand it. I don't want to be mean or harsh, but this is what I am thinking. I suggested You a lot of ways You could choose to cosplay Mytho but if You've already chose Your way - I can only wish You luck with Your cosplay and I hope You'll get some fun and good time with it! Good luck!

Hi Suzu. I am hoping you still remember me from our prior conversation. You are such an inspiration, ty. I wanted to touch base with you again. I have attended almost a year of ballet and have been practcing some of the routines from princess tutu. I have purchased my mytho costume which looks similar to yours. After investigating the character I do see many different versions of the costume but I liked yours the best. I am about to purchase the slippers and tights. Can you recommend a good pair of tights that can't see through ? Plus I want something that looks very classy. I am just a little nervous about not wearing pants so a thick pair of tights would be nice.

Hello! I bought my slippers and legwear at Grishko ballet store in Moscow. My legwear is special dance tights for men, it looks more like leggings with "feet" part, not like usual tights at all. As any usual leggings it is 100% not transparent if it is your size. You can see at every my Mytho photo, it looks and feels like leggings that You can wear everyday with top, just like pants. I cant recommend You casual tights, because it looks just not right with ballet costume. You better visit any ballet shop in Your city and ask for men's special ballet legwear. Good luck!
