Fanart of aki-kurosai 's OC Sundum! I made this sketch half a year ago, but only got around to colouring it now.For some reason, this piece reminds me of Durga Puja pandals - it's probably the colours in the background.

Hi there! I'm from Project Comment, and I'm here to give some artist critique!
For starters, I really like you rendering of the character. The shading a color in the piece (particularly the glowing parts) are great. I can see where the light is coming from and nothing is too ambiguous. Additionally, your proportions are pretty strong too besides some slight things that could be fixed. For instance, the way the clothes wrap around the shoulders/armpits make their torso seem overly wide.
As for things that you could improve, I think you could try and add more detail to the rendering of the hair, because as it's drawn now, the hair looks almost like really long noodles as opposed to individual strands of hair. Also, I feel like the orbs could glow a bit more or affect the lighting of the character's hands to make them less flat seeming. I feel like if they emitted light, it would make the orbs seem more powerful and energy filled.
All in all, great piece. I can tell a decent amount of effort went into it, and I hope any of my suggestions helped!

Wonderful use of reflective light here, especially well portrayed within his eyes and limning his entire body. Great technique; it is especially apparent in the "halo effect" around his hair.
Next thing that catches my eye are the curving lines that sinuously extend from his back like wings of air, which give this still, serene artwork a sense of tranquil movement, much like that of a river.
Good foreshortening for the orbs coming from the palms of his hands; they don't quite appear as if they are shooting out toward the viewer; rather, they seem to be hovering in a display of adept telekinetic control. This, too fits with the peaceful serenity that pervades the atmosphere of the piece.
Definitely stylized rather than photorealistic . . . reinforced by the sketchy lines of the flower bracelets (nice eye for detail!) and the fold of his clothes (kimono?) which in this case can be said to fit the Manga style. Still, my personal preference would be neater delineation, if only slightly.
Great work overall. Please keep up the great work! You can only grow as an artist, and it is obvious you have both talent and skill.

The curving lines of the hair being reminiscent of a river or air is a great observation! I agree, there are definitely lines which could be neater, especially with the arms and hands.

you drawing him just reminded me that this boi exists and i have not drawn him in a very long time
also is that a new style for eyes?? im actually into it !! and i absolutely

It's a style of eyes that's just for Sundum - I couldn't draw my normal eyes cuz of those pupils, so I improvised And thank you!! I figured that him just standing there doesn't look very powerful, so then I was like "HAIR FLYING EVERYWHERE (BUT GRACEFULLY)!!"
On that note - why is it that movement and bright lights tend to be what give us an image of power? Like, whenever you see power-ups/transformations in anime or Miraculous Ladybug and stuff, you always have this wind that comes out of nowhere and lots of bright flashing lights. What's with that? Not that it doesn't work, I'm just curious as to why. Is it because those are the things we pay attention to, while things that are dull and static slip out of our attention? I suppose that's why an insidious power that sneaks up on you causes so much more dread than something loud and flashy - it's like something dangerous hiding in plain sight, and we'd never catch it.
... I'm starting to question which end of the spectrum Sundum belongs on, as well as the rest of the ASM cast. And I'll talk more about the title elsewhere - wouldn't want to put any spoilers or wild confusing theories here

its definitely eye-catching and makes the whole thing dramatic/exaggerated; its an emphasis on something . and its not only with transformation, but clothing as well. ball dresses? flowy, flashy ; lots of movement there . which then connects to more "duller" looks; nothing is really striking or memorable. after all, attention = recognition/acknowledgment/presence = power

Pick any spectrum you like - I was thinking mainly of the "Powerful People" spectrum with flashy/obviously powerful on one side, and hidden-in-plain-sight powerful on the other side. Or like a looming threat that you can't quite put a name to, but sends a chill down your spine. So I guess, flashy-everybody-knows-their-name type power to underground-whispers-in-the-shadows-strike-at-the-last-second type power. Where does Sundum fall? Is he a bit of both, like Big Brother is Watching You type power that is both obvious and also more omnipresent than anyone ever imagined?

... to be fair, tho, sundum on both spectrums are the same XD but id just say that he isnt afraid to use his power/authority when its necessary or to get a point across , so id say that he isnt as "hidden."

Agreed. But his power isn't overly ostentatious, either. He doesn't go and flaunt it all the time - it's almost just like a constant presence. Reminds me a bit of Earth (I know you told me the characters' elements at some point, I can't remember where, tho)
