I really enjoy doing this piece.
The commissioner wanted the female character attacked by a ape-like creature. Ape is my favorite creature (especially King Kong LOL) and i really love those vintage savage sword of Conan's comic book (you might say my childhood was filled with John Buscema rendition of Conan) and one of my favorite story is "Rogues in the House".
When i illustrate this piece, i thought this is my chance to pay homage to one of my influential author (Robert E. Howard).
I based the ape creature on Thak with a little spice from Harry Harryhausen (another artist who embedded in my childhood) creation: Trog (Sinbad Eye of the Tiger)
