Description This is the stuff that powers your stuff. My god, the sheer volume of electricity shooting through all this stuff.

This photo is great on so many levels.

Nice nighttime photography. Did you use a tripod?

Most folks don't think about high-energy electrical infrastructure and how it performs in weather, especially winter weather. How cold was it there?

Is that a DC ultra-high-voltage circuit on the towers in the background? Were the circuits crackling, or quiet?

How did you get such a bird's-eye view?

It was probably -20°C that morning, very calm and quiet, but yeah a bit of crackling in the air. The towers are 500kV DC transmission lines. The roof extends further out in the spot I took this photo from. I had my camera rested on the edge of the roof, luckily there weren't a lot of vibrations there so the picture came out nice and clear.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to comment! Sorry the response is so late.

Gorgeous! Really beautiful and I'm so glad you shot it at 100 ISO! I love seeing long shots like this without all the grain. Lets me focus on the crazy glow and pinks!

Sorry it took me so long to respond to this!

Thank you so much! I'm still working on my knowledge of camera settings and how they'll affect the final product, so I tried taking these rooftop pictures a few different ways. I was worried that they would all come out blurry, because there's some vibration on the roof where I took this from... and I didn't have a tripod, so I was sitting the camera right on the edge of the roof. BUT ANYWAYS... I'm glad you like it.

Well you did well!! Not having a tripod with can sometimes pose a problem but I think you made do exceptionally well! I don't find a noticeable blur and the lights would show it! You're awesome for holding still while feeling a vibration! Awesome image.

I like how the lights and the grid-system of cables complement each other. It's like the lights soften the area up and give it some warmth and gentleness.
The purple sky is beautiful.

The purple was a complete surprise for me. I started out taking pictures in the complete dark, but as the sun started to come up, the pictures started coming out more and more purpley. Right place at the right time, I guess.

Thanks a lot for the comment. I'm glad you like it.

I don't think I've seen things get that purple. That's pretty damn purple. That combined with the yellow makes this a pretty striking composition.

It wasn't quite that purple out to the naked eye, but the long exposure on the camera helped bring up the purple quotient.

Thanks.
