Silver might be my favorite Sonic character, but... in a weird way. I thought he had potential, he has a cool, sleek design, his powers are neat, and I like his... intended personality, being dutifully heroic and naive.The only problem is, you know, he debuted in Sonic '06. So, like every character in that game, he was one-dimensional, annoying, and just badly written. And, since that was his first appearance, the bad writing established his character. It's a shame really, but still, I like to imagine some alternate universe in which all the Sonic characters are actually written well like I wish they were, and in that universe, Silver would be my favorite character.
At least they keep him around, I guess. Now that the series is picking up a bit, maybe they'll find a way to redeem him.

I love this pic! Silver is one of my favs. I don't know much about sonic 06, but I've liked what I've seen about him in the comics and in Sonic Rivals.

Quite nice. Well drawn and I gotta say I appreciate your perception on the Sonic series, choosing to see the best in it and appreciate that rather than get bent out of shape about the bad qualities.
I'm a lot like that myself, to the point that I often don't see or forget what the bad qualities actually are! XD I don't know much about 06. From what I've seen, I know it's poorly programmed, but my not-too-keen eye never really picked up on the problems with the plot, if you would be so kind as to offer your view and expand my own.
Aside from that, I thought he was a cool character too, even though I have not seen very much of him at all.

Jeez, where do I start? It's already well known how bad the gameplay is (you only need to watch a few episodes of Game Grumps to see that). As for the story... to sum it up, they went for an epic and realistic feel, and crashed hard. The story mostly centered around characters and events that were hard to care about due to being underdeveloped or implausible (I have no idea how they expected the romance between Sonic and Elise to work). The dialogue was straight up laughable at times, and the voice acting was pretty mediocre. The plot itself was really convoluted, especially for how underwhelming the story was (time travel always makes things confusing if it isn't done right).
If you want details, watch some clips on Youtube or something. Thankfully Sega has picked up a bit on what they were doing wrong, and the newer games are less story heavy. The closest you'll get to that alternate universe I imagine where all the characters are written well, is Sonic Chronicles, but... Silver isn't in it.

I thought the voice acting was bad in all the games though? Other than that I guess I see what you mean. I tend to like to believe even bad plots have potential, though o3o But yeah, I get what you mean
And I guess that's at least fair to expect from an RPG, of all things. XD (I have it, but I haven't beaten it)

Well, of course, any idea has potential, but you need to be able to go through with it and execute it well, which Sonic 06 didn't.
As for the voices, the actors they had from Shadow the Hedgehog to Sonic Unleashed were lackluster to say the least, and I think they were pretty much at their worst in Sonic 06 (in most games they were tolerable but in 06 they literally made me cringe at times). Thankfully, starting with Sonic Colors, every character's voice actor was replaced (save for Eggman, who was in my opinion the only decent voice actor from before), and they sound much better.

Ah o3o I've heard the voice acting from Adventure and 2 (or at least their gamecube remakes) and I can't exactly say I was impressed back then either, but I'm glad it got better at least
