Introducing deviantART v6This is the first ever published glimpse at v6, but this post is entirely technical in nature. For those in the community interested in the design process, this is for you. For those who want the whiz bang of getting going using the interface; wait a week.

v6 Search
Frictionless. Definitely the goal. Type a search term (fish), auto-refinement, no reload. Switch to popular, back to newest, narrow to digital art, or further if you like.
Self explanatory.
Information icon gives you gallery description.
There is still the desire by much of the team to move NEWEST/POPULAR switches to the guided search area above or below galleries, make the entire title bar about 25-35 pixels smaller, move thumbnails further up and make this even more efficient. We are likely to make these changes post launch... can't continue to deliberate anymore, it's time for this version to go out. The overall advancements here are too great to keep postponing by weeks at a time.

I hope this isn't a bugger but me and are having trouble with the message screen. For her, her screen won't load and in her journal she believes there is a fault in the html. I haven't expirienced anything in particular, but I was wondering if you could help her out a bit?

The new loader is bugging me today and only displaying the minimum deviations instead of the 120 like I have set. (Already reported it.)
Otherwise, I am very very pleased and impressed with this feature. Wish one was available for searching deviant favourites.

It looks good, it\'s not that much different from v5 (which is why I didn\'t like v5 at the beginning; it was such a huge jump from v4, but I\'ve adjusted). When is it being launched for public use?

Neat! Not that I use the frontpage or search very often, but the few times I did I always wished for a category description. The new menu structure seems much more accessible than the dropdown menu, too :]
The time info and the intuitive switch between number of thumbs are nice features as well.

I'm a bit OCD about commenting every deviation that shows up in my watchlist, and looking at every thumb in my watchees' journal features. So most of my time on dA I spend trying to keep up with my watchlist and message center. And failing, lol.
I've made a habit of returning comments, so I check out new people's galleries either if they comment on my work first, or if some journal feature wows me.
So I log in and answer new comments daily, check journals and watchlist several times a week.
Some features I use once every few weeks: Reading news (mainly Hot Topics), FAQ, browse, search, reporting miscats, status and thumbshare forums, my club's chatroom as a back-up if MSN is being a bitch.
Actually there are quite a lot of features that I virtually never use/look at: frontpage including slots, looking at DDs since v5, moods, shop, drag & drop collecting, general chat, today page, submitting news, half of my subscriber features. (I subscribed because of message center/watchlist, journal CSS, no ads.)
Actually my beta-tester status doesn't make much sense, given how few of dA's features I use
And maybe it's also interesting to you that due to my unfocused, procrastinating ways I keep switching back and forth between dA and small games

The search bar looks alot better than what we have now. I like the fact that we can now narrow our searches down to the category we want.

Is this going to include the exclusion search as well? I tend to search a lot using the - type of search, especially the -in: function. And what about multiple categories? Will we be able to make a search for "fish" in "digital", "traditional", and "photography", for example, all at the same time?

Something I asked a lot, easing the search of reference (we have currently to do a fake submit to see it) and possibly reducing miscats.
I see the title bar ("Search in...") is well used, finally, so my previous remark is moot.
