Nice work! I really like the detail here, and the underlying humour in the pic (once you "get" the background, that is) I also like the elegance you brought to Sonja's figure--it's rather graceful and all, but still very badass.

I was afraid the angle of her body versus the page would throw everyone off but I guess it's more readable than I gave it credit for being because so far no one has complained about how Red is seemingly defying gravity.
As for the background...

I never even noticed the angle of her body throwing the composition off honestly, so yeah, I think you were just being hard on on yourself.

I always see all the stuff I do wrong in my work even when others see it as seemingly "right" and this leads to me generally not being satisfied with almost everything I do. Of course we've covered that little quirk of mine ad naseum on other posts.

I know the feeling--I do the same with my stuff. For some reason the stuff you had to compromise on or you did wrong always seems to stick out like a sore thumb. I do sympathise.

It can be a bit daunting to take on a classic character like Red Sonja because you know that if the fans don't like your version they'll be more than happy to tell you about it. That being said, I'm glad you liked it-thanks!

Only thing I've seen is a poster showing Rose McGowen (sp?) playing Red Sonja. If there's any truth to this or not I don't really know because I'm not sure she's entirely right for the roll but then again until it comes out who can really tell.
I'm sure a quick Google search will yield much better information than anything I might know at this moment since I'm so behind on the times it's not even funny.
