Quite a while back now, I was involved as a concept artist in the Journey of the Spark MLP fan project, which was to be the fandom's first fully animated, feature-length MLP fan film. It was an exciting prospect at the time.As is well known now, this animation project was ultimately cancelled. Last I heard, it was still slated to be a radio play. Not sure if that's still true...

But I have recently received word that it is now ok for me to let some of my concept ideas see the light of day.
This here was my design for what I imagined would be a Changeling city; kind of their own version of Canterlot. In retrospect, it honestly was not a really good design. It was shot down for being too "flashy", when Chrysalis really should be more of a dark and dank and secretive bad guy. But at least now you can see what was proposed.

I'd never bothered to think of a name, honestly. I just called it the Changeling lair. Or perhaps Chrysalis's Capital.

I've pictured the changelings being more like bees, ants, or hornets where their colonies would seem nothing special from the outside but be incredibly intricate inside. So, perhaps a simple tunnel in a mountain would lead to a city much like this.

Indeed. I know it was an ill-advised concept. If I were to go back to the drawing board on this, I think it would be dramatically different.

Too bad it got cancelled. As you can see from my recent posts in my gallery, I'm quite the changeling fan. So, it's a shame to hear that your attempts to make a fan film were cancelled.

Yeah, it's too bad. But at least we get an official movie in 2017. I just hope they up the stakes from what we see on the show, and make it feel cinematic, rather than just a long episode.
